I grew up watching reruns of the Adam West Batman. I was 10 in 1989 and I can’t explain to someone who wasn’t alive yet, how amazingly different this Batman was, and how big Batman was for the next few years.

Same age, right there with ya - totally understand. Every time I watch with my son, I always tell him about 89 Batmania..& he just can't get it! Was a polar shift in society!- I always have to compare it to like when Nirvana hit the music scene! Changed everything/ the world!! What a great/ better/ exciting time!

That was really enjoyable. For me, despite all the other excellent Batman portrayals, when Michael Keaton says, "I'm Batman", he truly is.

If you didn't live through it, I don't think you can fully appreciate what a cultural phenomenon this movie was. Didn't matter whether you were a comic nerd or not, Batman was the biggest thing of 1989. It was everywhere and everything. The movie was very smartly not marketed as a comic book movie mostly because until that point, Batman was still somewhat of a campy comic book figure. He'd gotten a little more serious in the 80s, but it was nothing like the dark, gritty Batman we know today. That was 100% Tim Burton's doing. This movie made Batman what we think of him to be today. But as some of the marketing campaigns said, "1989 is the year of the Bat." I can't think of many things in recent memory that were as much of a cultural phenomenon as this. Most things that make a big splash in the cultural zeitgeist these days are flash-in-the-pan kind of things. Barbie/Oppenheimer was big, but evaporated in mere weeks. Batman hype lasted more than half a year at a fever pitch before it started to slow down.

I feel like my childhood happened in another timeline because I definitely remember getting two of those Batman toys in Happy Meals. I had the Catwoman one and the Batmobile. I kept that Batmobile on a shelf for ages, I liked it so much.

As I vaguely recall, in the time leading up to "Batman Returns" there were articles about fans loving the idea of Danny DeVito playing the Penguin, but him being resistant to it and even being insulted by it.

Catwoman didn't exactly "randomly show up." She was seeking revenge on Shreck for trying to kill her (and technically succeeding, briefly). Those attempts just happened to put her on Batman's radar.

I was LUCKY ENOUGH to do an interview with MICHAEL KEATON'S MOVEMENT DOUBLE CARL NEWMAN, over this past year whom actual wore the 1989 SUIT PERFORMING stunts and is also featured in some of the MOST ICONIC scenes/shots from the 1989 film. He worked closely with TIM BURTON as well as JACK NICHOLSON while on set, and speaks about his experience in GREAT DETAIL. Feel free to check it out! I'd GREATLY APPRECIATE IT🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇

Could not disagree more with the statement that the teaser trailer didn’t deliver. As someone who remembers, that trailer was truly incredible. Very less is more. Gave nothing away. Shut every doubter’s mouth that Keaton was a mistake. It primed everyone and lit a major explosion of excitement. The first time I ever heard of people paying to see a film for the trailer then leaving. Also your vid is misleading. Way too much time spent on Returns. Deserves its own video.

The Nolan movies were fun but they weren’t very Batman-ish. He wasn’t a detective at all. He was iron man in a bat suit. Thus far Keaton and Pattinson are the 2 most accurate Batmen. I grew up on Keaton but i think I’ll side with Pattinson. The noir influence in the movie just made it perfect. Can’t wait to see them move from fledgling Batman to full force of nature Batman.
