Our flag isn’t orange, it’s red,white and blue. Orange actually is our national color. That’s because our royal family. Their surname is: van Oranje-Nassau. Actually the footage you are watching is a recording of Kingsday. It is tradition that on the birthday of our king (before we had 3 queens) it’s a national holiday and festivals and other festivities are organized across the country. Sollebolekes, which means something like bimbo’s, is actually an artist from let’s call it the Mardi Gras scene. But his contagious performance has outgrown that specific genre. Now he is invited everywhere to get a party started!

You're correct, this clip contains two songs from the Snollebollekes ... This is so cleverly done that you have to jump up and down and left to right because the rest is doing that also. The up tempo beat and the massive crowd brings a smile to all who' are watching it ... Makes you wanne join the party. For your info, this was on Kingsday at Breda, a city in the south of The Netherlands ... Organised bij Radio 538, a well know music station.

I'm in Southern California and discovered Snollebollekes while watching stage 19 of the 2019 Tour de France. The Beef Eaters, a group from the UK, were roadside on the climb to the Galibier, dressed in their red "guards of the Tower of London uniforms, leading a group of spectators to the song Linchs Recht. kzbin.info/www/bejne/noGZiHqJecd2naM I liked the music, figured out what the song was and fell in love with this guy. One of the best performers I have even seen in my 74 years. Through countless KZbin searches I was able to find a cornucopia of other great Dutch artists: Jan Biggel, the Lawineboys, Alpensjuses, Goebroeders Ko,...and on and on. I love this stuff; it was all I listen to until recently when I discovered my now favorite artist, South Africa's Snotkop.

William of Orange was the most famous rebel leader who freed us from the Spanish occupiers. He was assasinated on order of the Spanish king in 1584. The Dutch fought 80 years (called the Eighty Years' War or the Dutch revolt) to get rid of the Spaniards. The symbol of our Royal family is also orange. Great reaction my friend ! Cheers from the Netherlands !

@@hansolo2121 Translating works given proper context; in England he was known as William the Silent. William of Orange applies to William III who was known as Willem de Derde in the Netherlands but as William of Orange in England where he was made joint-monarch with his first cousin, Queen Mary of England. He was known as William 2 (II) in Scotland. If that guy would've had kids, which he didn't, then the kingdom of England and the kingdom of the Netherlands would've remained united, at least for the lifespan of that kid.

It may seem like he is just a clown, but actually that man, Rob Kemps, is very intelligent and has a broad interest. He won the quiz "the smartest person" (which originates in Belgium but has a Dutch edition as well) where many known and unknown people combat of a single prize. He also presented a 4-part programme about French chansons on TV. Not exactly what you would expect when looking at these videos, but of course he understands very well what makes it popular. It is also not as easy as it seems, singing while jumping that fiercely. It requires a lot of physical training to be able to do that!

Color orange is because the last name of our royal family is 'oranje' (means orange). Song is done by artist 'Snottebollekes' with song 'even tot hier' (some moment here) which is actually a ode song to teachers. 'Snottebollekes' is a pseudonym for small children with a snotty nose which comes from the expression 'snotneuzen' (snot nozes) meaning young people that still needs to learn in Dutch saying.

The name Snollebollekes is funny in itself. Naughty, a bit on edge but positive, just like most of the texts. 'Snol' means promiscuous woman, in a bad way, but by adding 'bollekes', which means 'little heads', you make small and cute and not so bad. At ghe beginning he says 'Springen Nondeju' which means 'Jump Goddammit! Again, people could take offence, but he does it in such a way that it's fun. Most texts are on the edge of what is appropriate, but I think that is what gives power to these songs, and why people like them. I think it gives the people a feeling of breaking free from a dull daily life.

The Dutch flag is Red White Blue. It is the second oldest national flag in the world. After the Danish flag. The Dutch flag used to be Orange White Blue. But the orange colour always faded on the flags of Dutch ships during years on sea due to sunlight. So out of practical considerations they changed the orange to red. Officially as late in the in the early 20th century I believe. Orange is therefore not in the Dutch flag anymore. But it is still the name of the Dutch royal family. The house of Oranje (orange).
@jeanpierreviergever1417
@jeanpierreviergever1417 3 ай бұрын
The red-white-blue flag was around since the 16th century and possibly even earlier. Only during the Rebellion against the Spanish (80 years war) the orange-white-blue flag became popular, most likely because it is supposed to express support for the Orange-Naussau family which was controversial during some times during the Dutch Republic. The orange-white-blue flag became defunct during the Batavian Republic and after the creation of the Kingdom in 1815 red-white-blue was the official flag, albeit not laid down in legislation. That only occurred after orange-white-blue was used by the Dutch-nazi party NSB in the 1930’s. Since then orange-white-blue has always been associated with right wing extremism and neo-nazism in the Netherlands.

What he sings is not 'swinging on the juice', but 'springen nondeju'. Springen means to jump, this survives in English as well as a spring will cause stuff to jump on release. Nondeju is basically a basterdized version of 'nom de dieu', which is French for 'name of God', of course used in a way the English also have when they use this as a power term, like 'for God's sake'. So a proper translation would be 'jump, for God's sake'. Obviously, the crowd proceeds to perform the command, because the Dutch love set pieces like this. More impressive set pieces are Snollebollekes - Links Rechts and De Staat - Witch Doctor where Dutch crowds perform mass movements.

"Nondejus" is a Dutch expression that can be roughly translated to "Donnerwetter" in German. Both expressions are used to convey surprise, frustration, or annoyance, somewhat similar to the English "damn" or "gosh." In Dutch, "nondejus" is a mild expletive derived from "nondeju," which itself is a euphemistic contraction of "nom de Dieu" (French for "name of God"). Over time, it has become part of colloquial Dutch speech, especially in expressions of astonishment or irritation. Similarly, "Donnerwetter" in German literally means "thunder weather" but is used idiomatically to express amazement or frustration, making it a fitting counterpart to "nondejus." So, when a Dutch person says "nondejus," a German person might understand it as "Donnerwetter," both capturing a sense of mild exasperation or surprise.

Nondeju is a bastardisation of the French 'nom de Dieu', which means 'name of God', as in Jehova.

Springen nonderju. Springen means Jumping (spring = jump) Nondeju is used in brabant (southern province above belgium) a lot where they all say it as a power term like God damn it. Its origin comes from the frech term "au nom de dieu".

Orange = The name of the Royal Family: 'van Oranje'. That is why an orange pennant hangs on the flagpole when, for example, it is a family member's birthday.

The flag isn't orange, the flag is red white and blue. The royal house's color and name is orange. You'll often see orange being flown separate with the official dutch flag as a little add-on flag. And the event is due to the Euro championship soccer.

our flag was orange, white, and blue, but because orange wasn't well visible on the open sea around 500 years ago they changed it to red. The color of our Royal Family is Orange that's why it's our national color

Why do the Dutch wear orange and not red, white and blue? Willem (Dillenburg, April 24, 1533 - Delft, July 10, 1584), Prince of Orange, Count of Nassau-Dillenburg, better known as William of Orange or under his posthumous nickname William the Silent, was a statesman and army commander who played a key role in the unleashing of the Eighty Years' War and the foundation of the resulting Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. Previously, he was in the service of the ruler against whom this war had started as a rebellion, the Spanish king Philip II. Orange had started his career with his father, Emperor Charles V. In the Netherlands he is known as the Father of the Fatherland. His original name is Wilhelm. Willem is his Dutchest name. The name William of Orange came about because he inherited the title Prince of Orange in 1544. Part of one of his mottoes was Je maintiendrai (French for 'I will maintain'), which was enshrined in the coat of arms of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The national anthem of the later state of the Netherlands has been named after him since 1932: the Wilhelmus. Dutch sports teams have worn orange nationally since the twentieth century, which can be traced back to his title of Prince of Orange. Most of the melodies that are sung (and danced) in the parade are variations on Carnival songs, which were originally in the southern Netherlands but are now generally an annual folk festival. The texts are parodies of current events or/and adapted as desired to the type of local, national or international event.

I played it with my Dutch band during carnival in Germany. We had to explain what to do when we play this song. Now Snollebollekes are said to translate it to German. Next year we don't have to explain anything :D

"a kid's song" ... somewhat; it's actually targeted at dance festival crowds, which tends to be upwards from about sixteen to late twenties. It's called hardcore. But it works with other crowds too. The lyrics - as if that matters in a dance song - is in Dutch, but I think the band - snollebollekes - could make a killing if they did an English language version; Anyplace where there's a crowd it will raise the enjoyment.
