I did this kind of video once a while back, and received a lot of criticism about comparing with "different" kind of woods, and not having the same strings condition. For this video, I changed the strings on both guitars pre-shooting & the woods are perfectly matched. (Cypress back and sides with Spruce Top) The results are interesting! I hope you enjoy and learn something from it. Stay safe in these crazy times! Luciano

The cheaper guitar had more vibrant trebles and the more expensive guitar had richer, more sophisticated bass notes. It is hard to tell but it seems to me that the more expensive guitar perhaps can articulate melodies better. Playing with the cheaper guitar will produce vibrant and maybe a bit louder but less sophisticated sound.

Agree. But I would never buy a €6000 guitar, I wouldn't sleep at night for the fear of scratching it. I think that a not-so-expensive average quality guitar can be very good if the matter is musical ideas, and not the sheer sound of the guitar.

First of all, amazing playing, not anybody can make any guitar sound good ❤️ the clarity of the music has almost everything to do with your fingers.. Having said that, two things differentiate a good guitar from a bad or middle quality one: -the sound, the warmth, the tone, and specially the ratio between the "notes" and the "noise".. In that aspect it's clear which one is the best instrument.. - the comfort, which is not visible for the viewers, only you can "feel" the difference, a bad/middle quality instrument demands more attention/effort to play "cleanly" and clearly if i may say, a good instrument almost feels natural and helps bring out the music.. As a musician this is my opinion on the topic ❤️

The Conde Hermanos sounds more "from the distance" as if it's placed further away in the room and sound very "dry", the attack is very down to earth, very flamenco. The other guitar sounds a bit warmer and fuller which sounds especially good with tremolos. In my opinion both guitars sound more than good enough to be used as a concert guitar.

Firstly the playing was just just superb and would make any guitar sound exceptional, you truly have very skilful fingers indeed. I listened to this test through a high end amplifier and speakers which sound phenomenal with quality recordings and will expose any limitations of the source material or instruments. I'm afraid I may be in the minority, but I have to say the more expensive guitar may have been tighter, more precise and more controlled to the point of constriction, whereas the cheaper guitar was looser, less controlled but also felt far more alive, the music seemed to breathe and felt truer to flamenco and ultimately had more soul. The expensive guitar was just too clinical and cold for me and might suit classical music better where passion takes second place to accuracy. Flamenco is about passion and flare and for me at least through my system, the cheaper guitar left me wanting more. I think I would become fatigued listening to the more expensive guitar over time as it felt like it was squeezing notes out rather than letting them bleed out. Hey, it's just my opinion and I guess it's all subjective. Thank you for creating and uploading this video, it was a very interesting exercise.

This guitar doesnt sound so cheap at all, especially in your skillful hands. And it sounded clearer than the expensive one btw, at least through my PC. It doesnt have the harmonic richness of the expensive one, but still it is astonishingly competent. I guess the constructor has done an amazing and very honest work. Logically, the expensive one will have older and thus more stable woods and finally solidity in the future, but you can never know for sure. Once again, bravoo for your channel !

The sound differs indeed. But!... I believe that what you play and how you play is the thing of supreme importance. What guitar you play on is of secondary importance. What strings you use is an importance of a third order. Whether they are new or old is the fourth stage importance. Needless to say that you, Luciano, sound outstanding on just about any guitar you pick up, seriously haha. Even though having a good guitar is a nice idea! PS. Silia y el tiempo is an absolute pure masterpiece. Gives me butterflies every single time I listen to it.

Bravo for your playing! Both guitars sound great. If both have the same strings then we can compare them. The cheaper guitar is a tiny bit blurry, but also warm with rich bass overtones. The expensive guitar is very, very clear, but with less bass and warmth. This extra clarity may be worth the money difference for some people, but the cheaper guitar is a real bargain for what is giving to you. There is also some reverberation effect that may confuse the ear, but I can instantly tell the difference even when I don't see which on you are playing. Thanks for the video and the music.

I'm not watching, I'm listening from Yamaha HS8 studio monitors. The expensive sounds much better overall to me, but the real difference would be felt there, the recording, even though you used good microphone(s), impacts the sound. You feel a lot more low-mid frequencies in the cheaper one, less deep bass frequencies and some not so pleasant resonances. The expensive one has a little bit more high frequencies, less low mid but a deeper mid-bass and has less bothersome resonances. I can't really hear anything below 50hz, maybe you used the in-built high pass filter. The cheaper one might give the false impression of a lot of bass because it has a lot of mid-bass frequencies, which are not present in the other one. I suppose you've captured them identically. Anyway, I've heard cheap guitar sound better if equalised and recorded by studying the best angles for the guitar than expensive ones recorded with old techniques or by people who think that the microphone(s) should always be positioned in the same way (you should change and find the best position from guitar to guitar and from player to player). You should also ask people where they are listening from, if it's computer, headset, bluetooth mono speaker and so on. My monitors are good ones, flat, you probably know them and that might be why I feel the difference more accurately, but again, it's also a question of taste.

Ciao Luciano ,bel confronto.

I’m an American and a steel-string player, and I suspect that what goes on in flamenco is similar to what happens here. A full-time world-class pro will have a Holy Grail guitar at home to use for recording and a good workhorse cheapy to use as a road guitar in case it gets stolen or broken. A live audience isn’t going to be worried about subtle nuances in sound.

Hi Luciano, at first I would like to thank you for this great record for comparison. You are the good player and good musician. I must say that I found the cheaper one's sound is better unless noticing the identifing at the upper right corner on the screen. This first listening was from the phone. But I found the Conde' s sound is much better than the cheaper one when I listened secondly with the earphone from the laptop. At first sight the cheaper one's basses conflict my head because of it is more straight and powerfull effect. But at he second listening, I found the Conde's sound has more volume, wide and deep, the harmonics were heard inside your ears. Thanks for sharing. With my best wishes Barlas

OMG Amazing! I thought the orange was the cheap one! I had to search for the answer before seeing it on the corner of the screen... The yellow one had a brighter tone, more shiny, with lots of harmonics, and the orange one seemed not so loud, but with interesting harmonics too... Then I turned up my volume and yeah... lot more sustain and harmonics with the orange one, but I like the brightness of the cheap one. I would even say that in some frequences, the sound is a little bit louder and more spruce like, when the orange one sounds more like a classical cedar one, with lots of harmonics but not enough power. And... the expensive one is not precise enough... don't know how to say, but the sound comes blurry sometimes... Then all I said may be stupid since I'm listening to this at 2 in the morning with an old laptop...

Luciano just proved what I have been saying for years: It's 95% player and 5% guitar! The only time you will hear a difference is if the top is laminated - less volume. Antonio Torres proved that most of the sound of a guitar comes from it's top by making a guitar with cardboard back & sides. Usually - not always - the people with the expensive guitars can't play very well.

To be frank sound wise there is just a taste difference. I think if you tagged the chipper one as a Manuel Reyes(10000€+), then the comments would be unconsciously manipulated. Maybe as a social experience you can try that out next time Luciano😁. Great video again by the way!!!

Haha it does sound interesting. Actually a fun alleged fact, the cheaper guitar from Jose Luis Postigo is all based on the Manuel Reyes plan. He had a very close connection with Manuel Reyes, clearly saying it’s his favorite luthier. He now owns more than 10, it’s understandable why he would want his brand to be constructed the same way as Reyes but obviously with the cheaper woods.

The real test would be so called "blind test". That means that you should just put audio clips and audience should decide which guitar sounds better to them. The results would be interesting. I've done that kind of testing with my friends, and in one test, they decided that guitar that costs 50€, with pickup that I've installed, sounds better than well known guitar with similar pickup that costs almost 2000€. I've also done similar tests with microphones where microphone that costs also around 50€ was almost indistinguishable from the well known mic used in all studios that costs 1200€. Also, I have bass that costs new 4500€, and bass that costs 350€. At home I almost always play the cheaper one. Standards of production today are really on very good level and equipment can't be excuse for anyone who wants to learn to play instrument. Unless you are really poor and don't have any money at all, you can afford good enough instrument. Thank you for this video!

Greetings Luciano, Thank you for making this wonderful video, I always tell people same thing it is great price difference, but not necessarily in the over all sound !! maybe better quality wood and better fell thats all about it... The most important thing is the player and not the guitar.... SO PEOPLE ASKING WHAT IS YOUR GUITAR IS ALWAYS A NON SENSE ? even great guitarists come on screens and present their guitar names instead of themselves .. it is non sense. Thank you for making this wonderful video.

The only difference I could spot is that the expensive one has a brighter and crispier sound, of course better. The cheap one still sounds good, has a deeper sound but still clear. I always say a good guitarist would make a broom sounds like a high end guitar lol.

Great work - honestly, they both sound great. I continue to struggle with the "I'm not worth an expensive guitar" issue, so I'm planning to sell all my more expensive gear/instruments. Going back to the basics LOL :P

No come on man! An expensive guitar helps you get better quicker really. Hopefully with its better measurements and sound it that can lead to more motivation for you to play on it. Cheers Ramzi!

The yellow sounds good, orange make rasgueados sound good. I can't really hear much difference. They both sound good.

¡Bravo!

Who gives life to the guitar is the musician and not the other way around, it is clear that an expensive instrument warps less and stays tuned longer. At least that's what I understand about it.

I actually like the low end of the cheaper guitar more.. as it gives the sense of bass, I would prefer it for solo guitar playing, but it sounds like the mid and high range is way more pronounced and balanced and responsive on the expensive guitar, you get more tone where it counts, I hear the guitar projecting instead of string noise.. It doesn't have the deep bass but nobody is going to hear that in a group setting anyway and it's not the territory of guitar and you want something that can cut through and is pronounced.

nice video my friend! i think the main difference is thet the cheap one doesn't produce too many harmonics and leaves a void type sensation... greetings
