The movie was really good and memorable. It seems to keep the audience from trusting the narrator. We see too much of Tom's perspective but not enough of the other characters perspective. Tom is also unreliable as a narrator. This filled the movie with ambiguity left for the audience to interpret. Even the ending is open-ended. The audience gets to decide if Tom gets what he wants from Autumn. It seems like a satire of a love story. The message seems to be not to get your expectations on romance from movies, not even this one.

Flip the roles, where the woman is hopelessly in love with a heartless but honest man... and the male will also be the villian. Tom was never the villian or hero, he was a fool that stop hurting himself. Summer is an opportunist that hide behind being honest as a cover for using people.

A villain, or I guess antagonist would be a more fitting term, is just someone who works against the protagonist. Tom fulfills both these roles in the film which is why I referred to him as a villain. He isn't a bad person at all and he only ever hurts himself, never Summer. Summer's intentions are a bit unclear throughout the story so what I say in this video is just my interpretation as is what you believe about her.

If the woman was a hopeless romantic in love with a heartless and honest man, he would still be able to help her become more realistic and mature, like Summer did for Tom. I didn't see how Summer was "using" Tom. She didn't want a relationship, but she compensated by having much lower boundaries in her friendship.

@cbushin there were a few time as a male, I had zero interest in a girl that wanted a relationship with me. Most men are by far less picky than most women. We have fewer options compared to average women that get bombarded with male attention on a daily basis. Usually I'm the one being friendzoned, but in the few incidences that I friendzoned someone... I think it would be cruel of me to sleep with one of them and have a relationship with them. Honestly, I would enjoy the attention and validation and benefits of a one way love (I'm not beyond that). But it cost more for them emotionally than it is for me to be honest. Summer didn't do that. I hate that it's harder for me to relate to summer. And that female audience can't relate to Tom. But I would say even if genders flip, morals don't. It's wrong for summer as a female or male to do what she did.

vaccinatedanti-vaxxe you are letting your personal bias get in the way of judgement bro. I as a male, side with summer.

@holyshit123 ok I'll keep that in mind. Next time I run into a situation where a girl I have zero interest in has a crush on me, I'll use her.
