This time on Knucklehead Garage we finish wrenching on our 500hp 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel Excursion Build our overland excursion build aka project Towverlander. Then we take our new fast 7.3 Powerstroke for a rip on the hottest tune we can find! Big Full Force Hybrid Injectors, Dual Fuel Pumps from Strictly Diesel and a Bigger KC Turbos unit all make this the baddest Ford Excursion we have ever seen! With all of that we knew we needed better cooling and Mishimoto fit the bill perfectly. Throw in a Billet Torque Converter and shift kit from Diesel Performance Converters have this 7.3 rolling coal and ripping down the road. Will the transmission hold up to the abuse or will be have to walk home? Stay tuned and find out. Let us know what you think of the build thus far in the comments below. Big Thanks to all of the partners that helped out on this project to make this fast 7.3 excursion a 8000lb rocket ship!

@@BustedKnuckleVideo I hear ya, that's the plan. I basically wait until it needs parts replacement and then buy the best I can find. Last thing was the HPOP went out so it was upgraded. Before that it was a Mishimoto trans cooler along with dual pusher fans and a full transmission rebuild with a triple band torque converter and shift kit.

@@BustedKnuckleVideo Yeah, I installed two 10" or 12" electric fans in front of the trans cooler wired to blow air through trans cooler. Hard wired to switch on dash so I manually switch on fans whenever I see trans temps rising either from towing or pulling uphill in hot weather. Since heat is what kills transmissions I wanted to do everything I could to kill the heat first. I can send pics if you need.

It's the same stuff that's in the name brand jugs. Do some research. Plenty of people have tested the Supertech fluids. They meet the spec and are pretty much chemically identical to the name brand stuff, because they are produced by the same people. It's a whole lot more important that you actually do the maintenance, than what fluid you use to do the maintenance. Most 7.3 trucks still have the factory fill in them when the transmission fails.

Done a build on mine about 8 months ago 205/80 full force injectors, t-4 s366 sxe Borge warner turbo, head studs reworked heads, 3” plenums, adrenaline hpop, went with the sinister desiel regulated return and a walbro high pressure fuel pump. Didn’t do the hitch mod just removed the filters in fuel take and installed an inline kobota fuel pre-filter and a php tuner. It’s amazing how much it wakes up the old 7.3. Smoking like a train makes for good KZbin. And sense that is our mission, we did exactly what we intended to do. You know what Gale Banks would say? “Turn the fueling down.” That wouldn’t increase power, it would just reduce smoke. Which is exactly what I do when I take it off the “KZbin” tune and put it on a normal.

I actually did a lot of that to my E99 F250, pulled the motor, cleaned it up lots of Riffraff stuff, next project was going to the fuel system that you guys did but fell 15 ft off the top of a semi trailer and landed in the middle where the truck hooks up to the trailer. Was up top tarping a load from the construction site and the excavator operator hit the back of the trailer throwing me off the top. Lots of hip and lower back damage. Miss that sound of my obs 7.3 but had to get a motor that makes power without having to spend thousands of dollars just to make the same power my 12 valve does with a few crescent wrench and screwdriver mods do. But I do miss the sound of the crackle of the early 7.3 powerstrokes made. Much better sound than the later trucks with the split shot injectors.

Gale Banks will tell you how to tune a truck that is California compliant. There is a reason all the big players in the diesel performance industry aren’t based in California...There are limitations to what you can do with a fixed geometry single turbo, HEUI injectors, and a 20 year old ECU. Curious as to why a s&b intake instead of banks? From what i gather banks really did pretty good designing the intake, but people go with s&b. Genuinely curious and unbiased.
@jaminseat6701
@jaminseat6701 3 жыл бұрын
Banks makes good products, not taking anything away from them. But they don’t provide actual test data like S&B, just old magazine articles saying they are better. They compared their system to an old version of the S&B intake, and again, they didn’t provide any of the actual test days like S&B. The intake they tested is very different from the one I installed🤷🏻‍♂️ Additionally, the S&B intake has a clear lid so you can inspect your filter easily, which is pretty important for a vehicle that spends time off-road. Banks products aren’t designed with off-road use in mind. I’m more concerned with filter efficiency than I am air density, dense air doesn’t mean much If your engine gets dusted. And S&B provided filter efficiency testing unlike Banks.

It's a KZbin tune. That thumbnail wouldn't have garnered near the attention if the truck was burning clean. We don't run smokie tunes on the street, we just do it for video. I don't think "rolling coal was cool for a second," it was never cool to me, or good for the diesel industry, but it's just the reality of marketing diesel content and making power with old diesels like the 7.3 or 12v Cummins. Not to mention it was 98 degrees and 98% humidity that day; that tune would probably look much cleaner if we'd shot the video in February... Thanks for watching. More to come!
