The 'outlet' air needs to be about 25% greater than the 'inlet' area opening, otherwise hot air can stall in the duct area and cause overheating issues, as hot air expands...45 years experience building cowls for model planes...
@roaddoglv9 ай бұрын
Second law of thermodynamics, temperature transfer is nearly instantaneous which doesn’t require the velocity of the air to slow to cool better. Efficient heat transfer requires more volume than velocity. It’s a common misconception in automotive circles.
@FredAllenBurge9 ай бұрын
Yep! Same with radiators, never slow down the radiator coolant speed. So many people get that part wrong.

I have a PhD in Aerodynaminomics and have become it's CEO. I have thoroughly analyzed your radiator duct and bestow upon it an A+ rating. As I also minored in Structural Voids in Space and Time, I can confidently say that the more large, empty voids you build into your car, the lighter it will get. Keep going!

The cleanest way to cut aluminium is actually a circularsaw for wood. I use a milwaukee finetooth carbidetip blade, cuts 1/2" aluminium easier than plywood

Air loses heat as it expands as well. Expand out and slow down to pass through the radiator. The outlet needs to be slightly bigger than the inlet to keep the pressure differntial ( can't rely wholly on drag from the aerodynamics). How are you going to deal with water through the scoops?

You might need a air damn on the bonnet to create a low pressure area for the rad exit. The way that nose is raked, there is a potential that there will be higher pressure at the exit than the entrance.

I keep looking at all that metal work up front and thinking I could do it easier with composites. Since it is a one-off, you wouldn't need to make a plug. Just is a wire or wood frame and polyisocyanurate foam sheets to make the shape, and then hand layup. Then again, I don't have any of the big metal working tools or shop space.
@Mightymilo19759 ай бұрын
Use a carbite blade for your grinder or circle saw to cut your sheet make sure you use bar of wax (candle) or soap bar on the cutting face and side of your blade stoping it clogging up and make smoother cutying
@jesseallan38869 ай бұрын
For cutting aluminium easily get a circular saw with an aluminium specific blade. Wear hearing and eye protection ✌️

Have you thought about using a skateboard wheel as your large die when tipping the edge of your metal to make a flange? It also helps the small wheel not gouge as deep in the metal since the soft skateboard wheel lets it sink in as it rolls.

How do you plan on servicing the front end? I dunno if you considered it while designing. Like a hood that flips to the windshield, or to the front, does the entire clamshell flip? Or does it ALL come off?

Don't forget that hot air expands, thus you need a larger exhaust vent than the intake vent. Not 100% sure on what the proper ratio is, but you should be able to find a calculator for hot air flow through vents online somewhere.

Guys to help with the cooling you could turn the radiator into a tripple bypass by putting a cut in one end tank side a third of the way down put a piece of aluminum in the cut then weld the cut on the other tank repeat but put the cut 2 thirds of way down and go back to the first tank and put the cut a third from the bottom and plate and weld so the coolants has to zig zag 3 times down the tank so more airflow for a longer time on the core to disapate the heat hope this helps cheers from down under

Just an idea. Why not duct and vent the radiator underneath the car? It should be a negative pressure there from all the air rushing by in a constricted space. That way you don’t have to worry about water ingress from rain. Am I approaching this wrong?

2 Cents: I think the Coolant Temp sensor needs to be closer to the engine and not at the radiator for more accurate control. Coolant will cool running forward and give a lower/errant temp reading if the sensor is at the front. The puke tank can go in the void space behind the vent valance.
