Sadly, if you got something worth stealing, you have to make it harder to steal and make selling the parts harder. At least make them identifiable. Then have the vendors maintain a database so stolen parts can’t get service.

No, these are professional car thieves... Its literally what they are all doing and is typical of ALL the car thief rings. I am a cop btw and we are experiencing this exact approach to almost all major car thefts now. They drive around as teams of 2-4, scope areas, and they will drop off the thieves just like this. Its very typical all over the US now. And this is largely happening because they are not prosecuting theft like this anymore in most parts of the US.. And Tom is from Michigan? Its not surprising.

@@rtelles1127 I doubt it.. These car thief rings scope areas and when they see areas or a target they like that is vulnerable, they will wait for the owners to leave or come in very late at night. And they will continue to drive past the location every single day. We had a an old ferrari here that we got security footage from the homeowner and the car thieves we spotted surveilling the car for 5 days straight.. It was crazy. They waited for the perfect time and struck at 3am when the homeowner left. These are sophisticated theft rings.

The guy in the back had his phone on. Maybe they can compile a list of all phones that pinged off the nearest tower to you and narrow it down that way. Def not pros because it took em a long tiome to start it, but I'll bet they have records. Cross the names on the phone list with previous records and I'll bet it gets you close

Feel for you Tom i really do ,ill be quick i promise ,this life lesson has stuck with me for decades ,i was a 16 yr ol on my first week of employment Down Under as a bricklayers labourer a fellow worker had been found out to have stolen another bricklayers property ,early 1980s a different time ,he denied it black and blue till the boss opened hes car and bang there were all the belongings which belonged to the other fella ,this man who stole was belted bashed and beaten right there on the worksite and nobody lifted a finger to help him ,the fella who copped a beating had the choice stay or leave ,he stayed and became one of the best workers for the company ,WHEN you catch the fellas who stole your Ford its in your best interest to hand out an attitude adjustment as a community service as this will make them better citizens

Listen to me dude when you get it back do what I did on my 96 Beautiful F150 I put a fuel pump cut out switch and every time I leave my truck locked and alone I flip the switch!!!

95 didn't have a PATS ( chip key ) so this is a straightforward break / take apart the column / pick the lock drive away. I'm thinking this was a license plate change to avoid plate reader cameras, I'd be looking at toll road " bill by plate " cameras that come up with invalid plate reads and look for a red truck. If the truck has a easy pass toll ID box, I'd be putting an alert on that. There are car related businesses on either side of Tom's shop, this tends to generate traffic so someone may have previously poked around looking for an easy drive away. The irony is that Tom owns a security equipment company.

I've busted a couple theives on my property the last few months.. one trying to bust into my shop.(He didn't make it past the rebar on the window) and one trying to steal batteries.. luckily I have a friend who's a deputy sheriff that lives close by.. I worked at Dixie Hwy and Maybee Rd for years at my moms painting company and we had 2 trucks stolen right out of the parking lot at night with trailers attached. Shitty people taking what they didn't earn.... One was found in Pontiac and the other was down next to old Tiger Stadium. Praying you find it and get it back unharmed!

They looked like they've been doing this for a while, and knew where the cameras were, specifically avoiding them on the way in. They definitely targeted the Pickup. It appears like they had a code grabber / gps locator magnetically attached inside the rear number or to the frame rail under the back of the truck. When you lock/unlock your vehicle it grabs the code. This will upload to their phone (which is why the guy had the phone in his hand, and the truck opened easily. ) After the grabber confirms that it has the code to enter the vehicle, it sends a cell signal / text to the thief with the GPS location. They just roll up, retrieve the grabber, upload the code to their phone, turn off the alarm & open the doors, and use a mechanics tool to code a fob to the vehicle, (or break the ignition cylinder & hot wire it) and they are gone. *I would bet that another car thief or scumbag in your area knows who they are and will rat them out for the cash.

A $10 app will scan for rf receiving codes within a certain distance of your device. That is how I find and reprogrammed many cars that lost their key fobs when doing car audio installs for customers. Mind you, this only works on pre 2005ish cars and trucks with remote entry.

Even easier ways to get the commands if you are in the area when they are using the actual fab. Save the codes for a later date.

The People that took that Truck have a History with it. I think that they themselves or were told that a spare key or fob were on that Truck. That's what they were doing at the rear of the Truck. They knew straight where to go.

some of them break the handle assembly out and stick their hands in to unlock it. maybe a steelwire inside with alot of barbed fishing hooks will make them stick around. also they most likely changed the plate while being behind the truck

This was done by someone whom is familiar with your inner workings, They knew how to apporach with least visabilty, Most likely were ducking in the back to check and see if anyone is approaching etc. They then texted/called someone to let them know its a go they are taking the truck. Where did the drop off car come from and how did they approach?

Question was there a hide-a- key hidden from the previous owner hidden under the rear of the truck looks like they went directly to the rear like they kknew what they was looking for. Looking for 2 white guy's with there pants hanging around there knees could see the hands as they go to get in the truck, as they run across the parking lot out front there pants was sagging below there waist. Car was a black dodge charger or challenger 2012 or newer.

I live in Ferndale, just off Woodward. I will keep an eye peeled. I think some Ford trucks were easier to steal using the trailer wire whip. I heard the trucks could be hot wired with the wire pigtail somehow.

One other thing. I'd be looking at. Apparently MI requires vehicle safety inspections, I'd be looking hard at who did this in the past few years. Locally there was a theft ring where one person worked at a dealership and copied keys / got the home address and later stole vehicles.

Trucks getting chopped used in a crime or sent to Europe I'd say the drop car was stolen too given how care free they were when they got dropped off. I'd try to see if you can track plates on your truck or the drop car chances are they are with eachother.

I know one guy in Denver Colorado that put an Apple air tag in his wife's vehicle (thought she was cheating on him but it was much, much worse) and forgot to take it out.. it got stolen and he used to airtag to track the car.. headed for Mexico..

I think they changed the plate and someone at your shop or next store knows who it was. I would install hideaway GPS with recovery. If it’s gone make a call they locate it and recover it. Example is Roadside Systems

Tom bailey my friend had a truck that was a crew cab Ford 4x4 only not a dually and it was stolen now the Ford pickups a few years newer were the most stolen ford's for years because of only 5 different style ignition tumblers being used they went to the rear of your truck they changed the tag also I'm from great bend ks I was out of town last time u was hear. Theft preventive things I do, Look at the wiring diagrams . install A kill switch to cut ground connection to the fuel pump relay coil on that type of relay circuits install a long wire to a hidden spot to a switch. The other side of the switch is grounded. Install a relay between the fuel pump relay output. The wire from the fuel pump relay goes to pin 30 and 85. Pin 87 goes to the wire to the fuel pump . Pin 86 to a long wire to a hidden switch hooked to ground. Pin 87A is an option to hook to a 130db harbor freight horn tucked under a seat. Morose has the levers and brackets to control a master battery disconnect switch with a morse cable. This also allows a long Morse cable to be installed in a race car so the driver can control the rear mounted master disconnect switch without effecting the nhra push to shut off. I have 5 buck half inch thick cargo rings bolted to the inside of my doors thru slots in the door panels. A square wire grade 125 chain bolted to the seat leg just long enough to lock the end of the chain to the cargo ring and squeeze an arm in to lock or unlock it. Thieves have tried to steal my van full of tools 8 times. It got so bad I carried a spare steering column in the back. Sorry about your truck. A friend followed my advice and put an Internal battery powered GPS Tracker in his 83 cutlass. Somebody stole it. Took the cops 5 minutes to catch the guy.

Diesel Dually cats are worth quite a bit more than your average car cat. Dodge 2500 is worht about 3500 dollars. They knew their were cameras and didnt want to make a bunch of noise so they stole the truck to remove the cats elsewhere. Also they could probably parts out some other stuff as well. Thats my two sense.

My first thought on why they might have gone to the back of the truck was they where switching plates so if the cops saw them and ran the plate number it wouldn’t come back as stolen. Probably somebody with a similar truck so if the cops ran the plate the description the cops would get would match what is in their computer. They probably took the truck for parts which would explain why they knew exactly what they where after and didn’t take time to look around for anything else
