I really appreciate your detailed and thoughtful opinions on the use of spacers. A real world mileage and travel based review was and is very helpful so thank you! I feel that most spacer failures are due to improper installation, lack of diligent torque spec monitoring, and finally, poorly made cast spacers being used and expected to do more than they were designed for (mall crawler). BORA and SPIDER TRAX are quality made, and I feel that ROUGH COUNTRY offers a quality spacer, similar quality to BORA and SPIDER TRAX in terms of the same specs on the hardness and type of aluminum used, at a lower cost price point. I have no personal experience using any of them, honestly and for transparencies sake but have done A METRIC TON of research on spacers, usage, torque setting and maintenance. I believe you have proven the leg work in actual use and application and your real world use on and off road has made ME, an absolute believer in their safe use, worth and proven longevity, in certain applications.

to be fair, the differnce is in locking strength, so it doesn't really matter, it's also not the colour that makes the decider it's the number, I regularly use 222, 242, and I also have 638 if I have something I don't want to let go, ever...

AFAIK wheel studs or bolts do not carry any load except for tension to clamp hub and wheel mating surfaces together. It is the ‘friction’ between these two that carry all the loads. Hub-centric design only partly helps and they have to fit perfectly to work. Therefore, it is not the bolts or studs that may fail but the ‘plate’ of those 1-2 inch spacers. Maybe I would feel safer if they were ‘forged’ instead of simply ‘casted’. Nevertheless, I still prefer getting a properly offset wheel and be worry- free. Just my 2c. Thanks.
@mrsrabbit2712 Жыл бұрын
I've been thinking along the same line. I'll be putting larger tires (and new wheels) on my tacoma. But the larger tires are what wear out the suspension parts the most, from what my mechanic buddy tells me. Similar to how really heavy large steel tow boots wear out your knees. Maybe wrong analogy. So I'm already gonna wear out my suspension more, and should simply think about which is the strongest most reliable. If im going to need to move that larger tire out, ill need wheel spacers or wheels that move the larger tire out. It seems to me that properly offset wheels have less failpoints, and should be stronger... but cost more. Do it right from the beginning i think. So I'll save money until i can afford to do it right.

You've done a lot of thing no one else seems to ever do, check and threadlock them. the thing I would say, is if you move the nut, you need to reapply the threadlock. so basically if you have any cause to put a socket on the nut, reapply threadlock. They also do put extra pressure on the wheel bearings and that is because the wheel is further out, it's not like having a deeper wheel, it's like having a longer hub. Some countries it is illegal to run spacers, others jsut discouraged, personally I am in the school or get the correct wheel rather than the spacer, as have seen the results of a wheel falling off and injuring people a few times. I won't run them, but then I run a stock, very capable Land Rovers so no need. as turning circle is adequate and another degree really isn't going to make a whole lot of differnce.

Can you please drop the link to the package you got and everything you needed?
Even if installed correctly and good quality, they still change the bearing loading geometry to weaken the front end and increase wear. Not saying they don't 'work', just that there are better ways to solve the problem. Sounds like it has worked out for you though.
@ascentoffroad3 жыл бұрын
So if my TRD OR rims are +25 offset and I add 1.25” spidertraxx spacers which brings my rims to -6 offset. What difference would it be if I bought rims at -6 offset vs spacers. Wouldn’t both accomplish the same thing? (Serious question. Not being a smart ass)
@WildFaith3 жыл бұрын
Agreed! Thanks for the input
@WildFaith3 жыл бұрын
@@ascentoffroad you are correct in saying that the total offset would be the same but I do think that spacers load the bearing surface in a different manner than a machined wheel surface would. There is also the added connection point of "stacking" a spacer in between which is another point for POSSIBLE failure. I'm not an engineer, just some guy with a truck, but as stated in the video, I never had a problem... Best of luck in whatever route you choose. God bless
@bigbird57542 жыл бұрын
The kicker seems to be the spacer thickness. If you paste 3" spacers on your 4x4, I can see where the leverage could lead to excessive bearing wear. The use of 1" to 1.5" spacers is reasonable and I keep my factory TRD wheels. I purchased 1.25" BORA 's.
@jameshisself93242 жыл бұрын
@@bigbird5754 Agreed, the more the worse, but the proper solve for high durability is a lengthened A arm suspension. Much fabrication and engineering involved, so unless your wallet is up to it better to keep the tires to a functional size. No one wants to hear that though.
