if capacitor becomes open, then it provides stress on MOSFET, MOSFET and transformer core will heat up

if the diode is short circuit, it causes to drop the output voltage if capacitor beomes short circuit, it damages the diode, mosfet and smps IC as well if the resistor burns out, then it cause to drop the output voltage with fluctuations

I have trouble shoot a client Milwaukee battery charger the problem is that the ppm ic keeps on blowing when you charge a battery pack or if you turn on the power with the battery is on the charger. The culprit is the RCD snubber circuit the mylar capacitor has lost its capacitance (0,0047uf). Replaced the capacitor and the PWM ic, now it's working!

I have a smps of lcd monitor display I checked it with dmm then output was fine. But when connected the lcd. Lcd not turning ON. Then I replace the smps and lcd turned on. So it is confirmed that problem is in smps but smps is showing full voltage at its outputs correctly . What is the problem with smps? Please reply.

Salam M Haseeb, very informative video. I have a led driver 12v30A where under load always burns the same left 13009 transistor under load. After changing it many times now i have only 3v output as you mention. Could it be the snubber network ?

@@HaseebElectronics one more thing I am trying to fix a Ryobi battery charger it has a smps circuit. The problem is voltage fluctuations in secondary and also in primary. I have replaced the pwm ic and the Mosfet but still fluctuate. Snubber circuit goods in primary and secondary checked also other smd resistors near mosfet and pwm ic are all good. What's my next step to check I am running out of options.. hope you can help me. Thanks!

you can connect a bleeder resistor across the capacitor (use 200K to 1M) connect it permanantly

please check the snubber components check pin number 3 may be it is getting more voltage than the rated voltage you can add some resistance. also check capacitor on pin number 3 check pin number 4 components as well

Why capacitor used?

because resistor cannot discharge all the current in sametime to assist the resistor, the capacitor is used. it stores the remaining charge while the resistor is drawing the current in this time the switching mosfet then turns on again, so the capacitor will now discharge through the resistor and will becomes empty for next cycle. if we don't use capacitor, then a low ohmic value in high wattage will be used, which will cause to dissipate heat in resistor, diode and transformer winding as well, while a nicely designed RCD snubber will not dissipate power and transformer winding will become zero without any excessive heat generation during the collapsing magnetic field best regards

Thanks you for educating us. I see RCD section capacitor receive about 15 voltage in normal conditions. How does it receive such a small voltage from extra 600 voltage after rectification. And does that capacitor negative line will always be the mains positive rails? (300V). I have that RDC resistor showing mega ohm with some burnt sign.. what is the value of this resistor usually?

actually these are not 15 volts, if you will check on oscilloscope, these are around 90-300 volts. actually when we apply 300 volt switching pulse to transformer primary , primary winding behaves as a high value resistor due to its inductive reactance so in off period, the discharge path is through resistor as well. and the capacitor also receives that pulsed voltage. when we check voltage across the capacitor, it will show low voltage, because the multimeter doesn't have ac good ac response on high frequency signals actually these voltage are more than that
