Joe Fortis works for the New York City Fire Department Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. On September 11, 2001, he and his partner were across town during the initial onslaught. He knew they would be needed, so they started rolling in the ambulance heading for Ground Zero. What he found upon arrival was like nothing that could have been imagined.
The weeks following when rescue turned to recovery took a toll, but any attempt to bring solace to the family members of the lost was the ultimate goal. Hear his entire story and about the 20 years post 9/11.

America views ALL 9/11 responders as heroes. Those who responded to the initial attack, who didn't make it, as well as those of you who arrived after and worked diligently during recovery. You all did heroes work and we thank you all for your bravery and your honorable service. ~NEVER🌹FORGET~ 🇺🇲9/11/2001🗽

Lovely human. The first prayer by the body found, the gentle removal and Stokes basket placement, 2nd prayer by a priest, the tender removal of the basket while the workers paused (some removed their head gear) , another prayer at the on-site morgue- all this is the definition of humanity. What separated us from the barbaric terrorists is humanity. They have none. The terrorists made a call to New York City, and humanity answered.

Great interview series. On a side note, for a few minutes of the first video I watched I thought Titus Welliver was doing the interview. Does Will Ayres know his doppelganger is actor Titus Welliver?
