52 Blocks is a popular martial arts style that emphasizes defense and evasion. Although its origins are somewhat disputed, it is generally believed to have been developed by African-American martial artists in the United States. 52 Blocks is known for its fluid and evasive movements, as well as its use of 52 or more different blocks or defensive postures to protect the practitioner from various types of attacks mostly aimed at the head or body.
This unique style incorporates elements of boxing, grappling, and close-range striking, making it a versatile and comprehensive fighting style. It has gained popularity in recent years due to its effectiveness and its incorporation of African-American cultural practices, such as music and dance.

As a 52blocks practitioner myself. As a scholar whose had to do his own homework on the art. I feel this video was very well done. I'm glad to see the culture being spread in a healthy way. Hope to see more aspiring fighters use the art of 52

Thank you so much for the props. A lot of research went into this one because of misinformation out there. We saw some your videos. Really nice take on the art. We’re more partial to the Lyte Burly system but the first time was in Lethal Weapon. Great kicks and smooth transitions.

@UnknownFeng I appreciate it, bro. Thxs. I've studied most pioneers of 52. Including Lyte Burley. Fleetwood Mac, Constellation52, and Diallo Frazier are my favorite to study. Also, professors Mo. Personally, I have two styles. My outside 52 is a combination of Lyte Burley and combat Savate. Have you watched the 52blocksinfo video featuring Diallo Frazier? Good stuff 👍 My inside style includes combat submission wrestling. I'm still a student. Imo the more street dance style of Mr52 is my favorite. There's a funny beef between mr52 and lyte. But only lyte got KO by 2 fingers, 😆

Take a look at Cody in Street Fighter Alpha 3. His V-ism style "Sakeru" move, which turns his otherwise blocking posture into a moving dodge much resembling 52's Brush Shoulders/Gangsta Shuffle move, keeps Cody dangerous even when caught in an end-of-screen corner trap. This would be a good and true to 52 form addition to Dwayne's move set. He would be an unorthodox character that actually becomes MORE dangerous when "trapped" in the corner. Throw in some wall fightin grapples like "bouncing " off the walls (as though they were ring ropes), wall brain busters, the trading places grab 'n' switch, and the foot-on-wall spring off attach, and Dwayne could be amazing in Tekken! (Then tag team him with Jake!)
@UnknownFeng

A lot of decent moves especially the wall brain busters. I wish I could thrown that in there that he would be more of an “anti-wall character”. Who would you have as his rival? It’d be funny if it was Tiger Jackson. Lol

@@UnknownFeng If we used Dwayne as our 52 fighter, his rival would be Steve Fox, as some forms of 52 and Jailhouse Rock (not quite the same style....) were made to be a sort of anti-boxing ( at a time when boxing was an approved program in prison) that would allow a smaller man to defend himself against a larger one who boxed. (Dwayne looks like an average sized guy--maybe 5'9" or slightly shorter--certainly he's no heavy weight, lol) If we used the adult version of the boy (let's call him "Roscoe") avenged buy Bruce Irvin in the alley so many years ago, then the best rival would be Bruce Irvin himself. It'd be kind of a "Let's see how far you've come, kid" kind of encounter.

I love making up storylines & characters! Off the top, I would say let Dwayne Davis have a beef with Leroy Smith. They never said if Leroy has a kid before he ran off & learned wing Chun. He could be his grandkid by his daughter holding a grudge. But, reusing the urban reign character for a 52 blocks character is a great idea BTW.

I actually had that as well in the original script. Then I realized that nearly every Black character lost their family to violence. Lol

Dr TJ Desch Obi Thinks that 52 blocks Jailhouse Rock and other African-American boxing styles come from a central African art form that they called cutting. Also, Creed 3 shows 52 blocks in full effect, which is really good. I would like to see knocking and kicking mixed with 52 blocks to make a African-American martial arts Elise in a video game those two combinations along with some of the African wrestling that was in the United States would be a great character design in fun to play in a very unpredictable character.
@UnknownFeng

I feel really ignorant for not hearing about Dr Obi before. The guy has really done his research and has a deep passion for finding the truth. I have heard of “cutting” a few times in the past. It’s probably something from the Carolina’s related to “Carolina Chaos”.

Here is my take on 52block origins. If you mix European Boxing with American street fighting and combine it with Muay thai and other Asian martial arts brought home from soldiers deployed from WW2 to Vietnam unleash this in 50s through 80s NYC and you have 52 blocks.Ive seen 52 masters in my day and let me tell everything that sounds exaggerated was true.
