Wonderful! Thanks for demonstrating and explaining the different options! You are a natural teacher! I learned about how speed affects sewing knits as well as the distinction between a walking foot and knit foot.

If you've ever sewed jersey, lycra french terry, or any knit that is a bit floppy-stretchy, and as soon as you start the seam the machine has sucked the seam allowance and a rats nest of thread in knots under the needle plate... Give this a try. It doesn't so much push fabric through, as let it move naturally, and the rubber nub holds the fabric in place very close to the needle, to prevent the fabric stretching up or down below the needle plate, causing skipped stitches and chaos. The blue thing WILL constantly fall off and get sewn into your seams though. It is a fact of life

Does the walking foot and knit foot serves the same purpose? I am learning how to use walking foot on my stretchy fabric, the winter pajama material. I want to reduce the length of the ready made pajama .
@QueenBee17552 жыл бұрын
The walking foot can be used but they are slightly different. The underside of the knit foot is smooth with just a single padded grabber. This helps to keep from picking fine knits. The bottom of the walking foot should look similar to the feed dog. (There are some smooth bottomed ones as well. I'm not sure which you have.) It's designed to grab heavier fabrics. It can be used on some knits but try to lower the pressure between your feed dog and foot. Also, remember that a straight stitch will not 'stretch'. You'll need to use a stretch stitch or narrow zig-zag to keep the stretch in the fabric. Some walking feet can only do straight stitches.

This is better than the walking foot for stretch fa ri cs?
@QueenBee17552 жыл бұрын
Short answer: this foot is cheaper than the walking foot. Both work. You just need to set all your adjustments, for each, so they do what is needed for your fabric. My walking foot is textured on the underside so it will sometimes grab the fibers of some knits. This foot is smooth. There are also smooth bottom walking feet.

Please , what kind of needle do we use? Can regular needles be used ??
@QueenBee17553 жыл бұрын
I use regular needles that fit that machine for the fabric I'm sewing.

I have used it yesterday on a knit fabric but I noticed that thearm at the back loosen my needle until the needle comes out so it is a no for me. I have the same set as you do.
@QueenBee17554 жыл бұрын
I have the same issue when using my walking foot. The vibrations from it causes the screw holding the foot to loosen. Whenever I use a foot like that, I set up everything as I normally would, making sure everything is lined up, then I use a screw driver or pliers (whichever is closest) to tighten the screw very well. Then I only go about 1/2 speed. Full speed sends the foot flying a lot faster. I hope this helps.

I have this sort of kit and the knit foot doesn't work on my Husqvarna Viking Prelude 340. Even tho properly installed, the design of the foot is faulty. The hole where the needle should go to pierce the fabric is too far forward. If I tried to sew with this foot, the needle would smack against the foot behind the hole and break. I keep emailing seller, but seems to be a language barrier. Has anyone else had this problem with this foot? All the other feet in this kit of 42 do work fine.
@QueenBee17553 жыл бұрын
They do all work for my Brother but I have the same issue with a few of the feet on my Janome. I even posted a pic of it on my community page. Thanks for letting others know about that machine.

@QueenBee17554 жыл бұрын
LOL. Not a bad idea, But I have found that some fabrics like it and others don't, so it's nice (although frustrating at times) to be able to remove it. I am finishing up a video now about sewing sequin that also has a tip about sewing stretch fabrics without the knit foot. Thanks for watching!!
@cheshkat63214 жыл бұрын
I have been using the regular foot because I don't have many projects with knit fabrics. Also because I really didn't know better. Can you show how to use a ruffle on your Brother sewing machine, please? I know it isn't included in the kit you are demonstrating, but I am hoping you have it since you mentioned it in another video. Also, a demonstration of putting snaps on would be helpful. I bought more than one tool kit that makes absolutely no sense to me. I understand that you are busy and don't post regularly, so I realize it could be a while.
@QueenBee17554 жыл бұрын
I do have a ruffler/ gather foot and will try to make videos on that and snaps as soon as I can. I also have a request for piping/ welting foot. This is the last week before my husband goes back to work so we've been pushing getting 2-person needed stuff done on camper. I am assuming the putting on snaps is the tooled press on ones and not the sew on ones?
@cheshkat63214 жыл бұрын
@@QueenBee1755 yes, the tooled snaps. Although I imagine I would still learn new tips even with the sew-on snaps. Watched all your videos today - it's a migraine day. I'm now so anxious to get some projects tackled this week. And view your videos again! Thank you for being a great teacher!

Did u use regular thread for this knit or did u have to get stretch?
@QueenBee1755 Жыл бұрын
That depends on what you are doing. I rarely use a stretch thread but do have them. When sewing knits with regular thread, be sure to use a knit stitch setting or a narrow zigzag if the machine doesn't have a knit stitch option. Doing this allows the seam to maintain a stretch, depending on the width of the stitch. (The wider the stitch, the more allowable stretch but the seam, depending on style, may be more easily seen.)
@andiebee724 Жыл бұрын
@@QueenBee1755 i’m not sure that my sewing machine has the knit setting I have a singer tradition 2277 sewing machine I have to look at what stitch I could use. I’m looking to make a dress or really re-create a dress that I have and the only issue I think I would have would be the edges because everything else is hidden.
@andiebee724 Жыл бұрын
@@QueenBee1755 also thank you for responding. I appreciate it.😊
@QueenBee1755 Жыл бұрын
@Andie Gonz : You don't have to have a knit stitch on your machine to sew knits but it is easier if you at least have a zig-zag option. Set the width of the zig-zag to narrow and test the stretch on a scrap of the fabric. The more stretch that is needed, the wider the zig-zag. When doing this, double check the length of the stitch based on one side (left or right) since, in essence, one side of the stitch is more for looks and the other side for function. Also note if the left or right side of the stitch will be more noticeable so that is the side to focus on placement. If you do not have a zig-zag option, using a stretch thread would be the next best choice. I hope that helps! And thanks for watching!

That is why I use my Brother in these videos. I have a Janome also. Only some of the feet work with it due to needle position on the Janome being slightly different. I have the same problem. Be careful when using a new foot on your Janome. Test it slowly for awhile first.
@joannekaminski62994 жыл бұрын
QueenBee1755 I do go slowly for a while then even when going slow all of the sudden it hits and snaps my needle. I got this set as a gift for Mother’s Day. I’m still new to sewing and mainly Woking with knit and French terry. This foot was perfect except for it snapping my needles or even having the tapping causing the screw to loosen
@QueenBee17554 жыл бұрын
That stinks. The knit foot does help with knits but isn't necessary. Before I got that foot, I used adding machine tape (like in my sewing sequin - stretch sequin video). The knit foot, zipper foot, and any with a small opening for the needle, have issues running on the Janome.
@joannekaminski62994 жыл бұрын
QueenBee1755 that really sucks and essentially makes my gift useless as those are the main reason we got it. I hope hubby can get his money back then as I don’t want the other feet.
