Phil's right about priests from the southern hemisphere having influence. We too often forget that the church is a worldwide entity. We had a missionary to Costa Rica preach at our church, and there was a palpable silence when he said that he was excited for Latin Americans to share their theology to enrich the worldwide church. We're so used to venerating Western European and American theology that we forget that our brothers and sisters in Christ from Asia, Africa, and South and Central America have an active part in the gospel and our understanding of Scripture and its applicaitons.

The law is summed up as "Love God" and "Love Your Neighbor" Who does that benefit? Evangelicals struggle with the law and doing what they're supposed to do because they have a very selfish view of the Bible that is only concerned about what's in it for them. Since Jesus did everything, they can't understand why Jesus told them to keep his commandments.

Oh hello there! I moved back home to Spokane, Wa. from Mesa, Az way back in 2003. I was in Mesa '98-'03. It was still a dry heat when I first got there. I was amazed how 95⁰ felt like 85⁰ & how my sweat (sry to be gross) was watery, not sticky & uncomfortable. By 2002 tho...the green lawns, increase in man-made lakes & backyard pools made it icky & sticky...and hotter all the time in every way. My skin didnt tan in its usual golden brown way...it looked like crispy, burnt bacon. I STILL have mass skin damage on my face..huge dark spots still resurface every summer. So I just figured i may as well move back home. The other reason I dreaded summer was the SHOCKING amt of babies drowning in pools. It was at LEAST 1-2x's every week...and ZERO consequences to parent(s) / caregivers. I understand the grief & guilt alone is very punishing, but I started to wonder how many cases were true accidents considering the CONSTANT cautionary tales. How can they NOT know better than to "run inside for just a minute", espcly after constant & continuous cases reported all over the news? Conversely, if a baby drowned in a bathtub...mom/dad would surely be receiving the wrath of Sherrif Joe, pink boxers & sleeping w/no a/c. So it made me fear that if someone wanted to k#ll their baby, they'd just be sure to use pool VS bathtub. It made me so phyisically ill...everyday. On a sweet, light note- I DO miss waking up early to enjoy watching the geckos climb around the exterior of my home while I drank my coffee.

I lived in Phoenix for the first 45 years of my life. 4 years ago we moved to the greater Raleigh area and have been converting our 1.3 acres which was mostly lawn into part permaculture food forest, part clover, and the wooded part into an ornamental woodland garden with a wildlife pond (natural design, no pumps needed.) Hopefully our future includes putting in a natural style duck pond and a walipini (sunken off grid greenhouse for year round temperature control with water harvesting design.) Life is so much better here 2 hours from the coast. I wish my relatives in PHX would realize it's just a matter of time until the water issue that they complain about results in their houses being worthless. I love the outdoors, kayaking with my son, gardening with my daughter, fishing, birdwatching, baseball, ice hockey, hiking…God created nature for us to tend to and enjoy. It is when those on the Left such as these people turn taking care of the environment into a religious movement, seen by those who practice Wicca, pantheism, that it is a sin. Yeah..so, unfortunately, egalitarianism is actually unbiblical, and has no scripture basis whatsoever. Complementarianism is laid out in verses such as Genesis 2:18, Ephesians 5:21-33, Titus 2:2-6, 1 Timothy 2:12. It is not a matter of exclusivity in preference in gender nor sexism, rather biblical ordained roles. God loves sons and daughters of His, saved by grace and and faith alone equally, and makes no distinction in their importance as image-bearers of the Imago Dei (Galatians 3:28). The dangers in egalitarianism is that it inevitably leads to feminism & ecumenism.

I'll eventually listen to this, but my answer is that those that want to "do something" about climate change utterly gloss over what it will cost to do something. Multiple reports show the recycling craze is largely useless. Back in the '90s politicians told us about the glories of ethanol and not Big Ag is addicted to the subsidies and tax breaks and reports show that ethanol was a boondoogle. We stuff 40% of our corn crop into our gas tanks. What a waste. So the earth is warming? Of the warming that has occurred, how much of it is human caused? 50%? 1%? 0.00001%? There are few things more axiomatically true than to hear the phrase "scientists USED to believe..." Also, I believe by this point NYC should be largely underwater if I recall some the late '80s climate change hysteria. From a show I used to watch as a kid: "Can we do these things [to fight global COOLING]? Yes. But will that make things better? I'm not sure. We can't predict with any certainty what's happening to our own climatic future. How can we come along and intervene, then, in that ignorance. You could melt the ice caps. What would that do to the coastal cities? The cure could be worse than the disease. Would that be better or worse than the risk of an ice age." -- Dr. Steven Schneider, 1978, on the show "In Search Of", before he started selling global warming
@paxxielart2 жыл бұрын
Hey Ed, I totally get the mistrust of government and business. The whole idea of recycling being the solution was pushed by the plastic industry to push the responsibility of plastic waste on the consumer and making it a moral failing to not recycle. The issue we have isn’t the politicians lying to us, the source is business interest which conflict either human well-being and good stewardship of the planet. Many of the solutions for climate change already exists such as building better mass transit systems to reduce car emissions as well as shifting the mentality of our consumption from quick and disposable to reusable and long lasting. I understand that there’s is the unknown of how these solutions might affect the future and that these solutions might be worse but in the face of that fear we trust in God and do our best to make informed decisions. Following God means we have to make sacrifices that might mean our standard of living and comfort has to go down. As someone whose a converted Christian with non Christian family I don’t want to risk their eternity because we were afraid of confronting our greed and exploitation of creation. I hope I didn’t come off as antagonistic I just wanted to try to communicate my thoughts on your comment and maybe try to alleviate some fear. I recommend looking into the climate change research. Given that the Lord knows the intentions of the heart and sees all....that's bold! Case-in-point. You mock Megan Basham and completely misrepresent her very obvious meaning that I know you guys are smart enough to understand. Her point was that established evangelical organizations are putting time and resources into activism that is palatable for a secular audience, but silent on issues that are more damaging, urgent, but culturally unpopular. If you think that climate change is a more urgent issue for Christians than the sexualization of an entire generation of image-bearers (young and old)..... you ain't nearly as 'moderate' and prudent as you like to think you are. @adamr.68892 жыл бұрын
Nobody is above criticism, and Megan is very critical of Collin's and French for good reason. I don't have a problem with Phil or Skye being critical of Christians to their right. The problem is their consistent and deliberate misrepresentation of the people they disagree with. And, it's very obvious to people like me, who they constantly straw man, that their criticism is neither in good faith or an honest attempt at bringing unity to the church. I've given examples of this. Can you provide an example of where Megan has misrepresented one of French or Collins views?
@Blairjoyfulsound2 жыл бұрын
It's all a matter of who folks agree with. As someone who listens and respects both French and Collins, I feel the same way towards Basham as you feel towards the Holy Post. I don't view either French or Collins (or most of the "Big Eva" folks she bashes) as the monsters that she makes them out to be. In contrast, Phil was including her in the reactions to the NAE article among several folks (it wasn't just about Basham). The point was the article and the evangelical reaction to it. Ever since the Phil Vischer Podcast has been in existence, it's main purpose is to be a commentary on Christian/Evangelical culture, which Basham is a part of. No one batted an eye at this commentary pre-Trump, but once there was an inch of critique towards conservatism or the GOP, now it's not ok. In short, because you agree with Basham's assessment of French and Collins, you don't see how she maligns them in the same way you claim the Holy Post maligned her. Personally, I think Phil should apologize for the joking tone he used (and I could see him addressing it on a future podcast), but let's be honest, she plays this game a lot harder than Phil and Skye do. You just don't see it because she aligns closer to you.
@adamr.68892 жыл бұрын
@@Blairjoyfulsound there is a broad evangelical disagreement, which I believe French, Vischer, and company are firmly on the wrong side of. But, I'm just making the point that this crew is particularly nasty about it. Phil lied and misrepresented Megan's point in order to score a couple of cheap jabs. And he doesn't just do it to Megan. Go listen to Alisa Childers, of whom he spoke of in the same way, and tell me she is deserving of the same derision. And to my original question, I'd love to have an example of how Megan has misrepresented French or Collins? Megan reports and criticizes. Vischer lies. They are not the same. And, there is something else fundamentally different about what Vischer and company do contra Megan and company. Megan and company attempt to confront what they see as poor leadership and a lack of discernment within evangelicism. They see this as hurting the church....the people in the pews. Megan, has tried to have conversations with these church leaders head on, and they refuse and malign her. What Vischer and French claim they are doing, is being a prophetic voice in the church calling the Trumpers to repentance. But, it's obviously not genuine. If you want 'white evangelicals' to repent, you don't go beat them up on CNN and MSNBC and the Atlantic. That's what David French does. I don't know a single conservative that would take that in good faith. French and Vischer beat up on people in the pews. They punch down. Megan punches up. Megan is under these guys skin. Good. They've been talking about Christian nationalism for years

I've watched the GoP and its ideology be used as an anvil to hammer the bible around since the 80s. This nationalist movement is the result in churches dropping the spirit for ideology from a political party and their propaganda on the radio in the form of networks like Moody and and entertainment networks posing as news like Fox and the new acronym networks. Pull the board from your own eye.
Although I tend to disagree with a lot of what these hosts say, I listen to the podcast to hear some discourse. Not sure if I’ll listen to this one based on the title. I can just imagine….🫣

Out of morbid curiosity, as an “evangelical,” do you care about environmental issues?

@@Justanotherconsumer Of course I do. However, it is clear that people in power have exaggerated climate change over the years it’s hard to take them seriously. There are plenty of scientists who make an argument that human interaction has limited effect on our climate. All one has to do is look at people like John Kerry’s lifestyle and his carbon footprint to know he’s not serious. To make broad generalizations of groups of people isn’t helpful.

@@bman11714 do you think that secondhand smoke causes cancer? I ask because the “it’s all overblown and scientists disagree” argument was a standard tactic of the tobacco industry. They knew it was a lie, but they also knew it was an effective disinformation tactic.
