Thank you for sharing and teaching :) I watch often, and it has made me a better ceramic artist.

I love your work. This is a great way to enhance the sodium silicate. Thank you.

Were you teaching a night class at Ohlone College more than 10 years ago? As a substitute. Just one semester, I think. You were the best ceramics teacher I had at that school.

Yes, I taught at the Ohlone college 2 semesters 10 years ago.

Hsinchuen Lin I’m so glad I found your channel. I haven’t done any ceramics in several years but I may again some day. The hard part is finding a place that can do proper firing. Many of my pieces didn’t turn out because of pitting and perhaps not long enough candling. Very frustrating and not worth going. Take care.

Can we re-use the clay after putting sodium silicate if the pot doesn't turn out properly?
@hsinchuen4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I recycle mine. Just make sure you wedge your well.

@hsinchuen Lin First of all, thank you for all your videos! I'm not living in US and I'm wondering if you can tell how much sodium silicate concentration your liquid have? I have found some solutions with 33-35% sodium silicate concentration in my country. Do you think it may work? Thanks again.
@hsinchuen3 жыл бұрын
I bought the sodium silicate premixed so I don’t know exactly the percentage of water. I don’t think it is critical for the water concentration as long as it doesn’t drip after been brushed on the surface. Do your test first.

What does the sodium silicate do exactly?
@hsinchuen4 жыл бұрын
To make the crackle more dramatically.

The silicate binds to a superficial layer of clay and quickly hardens when heat is applied. When the still malleable layer of clay beneath is stretched, the superficial silicate bound layer cannot, so it cracks instead.
