Thank you. I learned a lot from your channel. Fixed 5 consoles this week with your help. Will you try to replace the APU, you have the bottom heater?
@ToltecMerc2 жыл бұрын
The APU cannot be replaced alone. It is married to several ICs on the board. I would have to change all of them.

3:52 - One question, since you record with phone, did you consider buying tripod for phone? Or maybe mounting it to your chest? Just to get another hand free.

I have a tripod but I don’t always use it. Sometimes it’s inside the house and I’m in the garage. I should have gotten it.

Can you do a video specifically on voltage injection for ps4 units?

Did you check the caps on the core output they have a habit of breaking down
@ToltecMerc2 жыл бұрын
Those large black fat ones? I did not lift them to test, however, when I injected voltage none of them got warm. Only the CPU.
@GainingDespair2 жыл бұрын
Top VRM is for the SOC Bottom is core VRM APU's are very finicky when it comes to SOC.

I have a CUH-7015B with a pulsing BLOD(when the pwr button works). I've checked the PSU (ADP-300CR) and it output a steady 11.895v when tested. Is this normal or low? If normal, what else can cause the intermittent pwr button? I've confirmed the button is good. The eject button works every time.
@ToltecMerc2 жыл бұрын
I would say your voltage is fine. The only thing I can think of would be the SouthBridge or some of it's power supplies.

@@ToltecMerc I ordered a SB today. I was thinking the same thing. Thanks for the advice. FYI: I just received my first PS5 for repair today. Symptoms: Powers on after left disconnected from power for an extended period of time. Strangely, USB ports charge controllers but syncing them does not. It doesn't want to turn back on after power cycling. I was thinking of trying a full system install via safe mode next. Stay tuned. Let me know if I can email you.

Did you pull the hard drive. I had one do that and it was a bad hard drive. Scan the drive for errors on your pc.
@ToltecMerc2 жыл бұрын
I pulled it. Would not display anything. It should give an error about no hard drive.
@DarthSimous2 жыл бұрын
Very educational, as others already said .. First time i am seeing error retrieval, similar to SYSCON method on the PS3s .. I hope the community comes up with methods for the APU & those ICs U mentioned on a comment to be remarried succesfully .. Lots & lots of PS3s and PS4s would have been saved, if it weren't for Sony's idiotic obsession for "pseudo" security on their consoles ... Cheers

Being able to monitor the UART data opened up the possibility of fixing many BLOD consoles. Thanks for watching and commenting!

How can I fix a similar issue, but different short?
@gexrge_karp Жыл бұрын
It’s just a small capacitor that went out and I’m looking for it’s place
@ToltecMerc Жыл бұрын
If you know you have a short on a supply, you can inject voltage and see what gets hot with a small amount of alcohol. You need to know what voltage would normally be there so you don't inject too much. You should probably start with 1V from your power supply. Be very careful how much voltage you inject.

the hard drive may have been good at the time the console failed, but during the downtime it could have taken on a case of weak or bad sectors -- which can indeed cause BLoD and it's also a potential explanation to a one time then no more
@ToltecMerc2 жыл бұрын
I removed the drive and it would do nothing but show BLOD. It would not give the message about no storage device. Also the UART output was dead. No info scrolling by.
@natek50512 жыл бұрын
@@ToltecMerc honestly can't remember if it was one of your videos i seen it from but a BLoD troll can also originate from flux getting under a crystal -- especially the one that lives right next to the southbridge off the top of my head, unsure of proximity to the area that was worked on, or presence of other crystals to the area worked on, but they are sensitive to "underfill" of any kind
@ToltecMerc2 жыл бұрын
Yes I have at least one video where I did get flux beneath the 32KHz crystal but that gives an obvious error when looking at the UART output. The data will stop scrolling and hang when it gets to the Real Time Clock.

@@ToltecMerc working on a 300ER now, had bad ZEW DAP046 and the string of diodes of course all cascaded, they have all been replaced now, zeners all check out, opto's check out, dap049 tested good but replaced anyways for good measure.... i get the 5v and caps do hit 380v when triggered, but 12v only has a 0.045v hiccup followed by full shutdown... i believe I've also tested every resistor on entire board, what should i be focusing on 😭

These Sony consoles always have a lot of issues don't they? I have consoles from all generations from Nes and Sega Master to Dreamcast, Wii, Gamecube and the Sony consoles are the only ones that are always breaking. Every single Playstation I've ever owned is dead. Last one I got was a PS4 Pro, haven't used it in months and when I tried turning it on the other day it does the same thing as this one in the video. The thing just stopped working. Even without being used it still breaks.
