You probably wont read this because this video is very old. I found your channel just as you started out your crisis journey and have been going through older videos because I quickly became a fan of your content. And after watching this one, I realize we are so incredibly similar! And I am praying for you and your family.

I am watching this going, people really spend on this stuff don't they? No wonders why some people with good incomes are always broke. I feel like we spend a lot because I get my nails done every 2 weeks. We also buy pop, gluten free snacks and eat restaurant food A LOT (10 times a week?). We don't have kids. My husband and I both work. We share a car. He walks to work. I drive to work, but he can always drop me off and pick me up or drop me off and I can walk home.

My sisters mother in law used to buy the kids noisy toys.one year they were going to visit her and her husband asked what toys to bring. My sister said “how about all the noisy toys she bought. See how she likes it”.

I probably don’t buy 99% of these so I appreciate this video so that I don’t feel alone! More people should share stuff like this because it often feels like most people are buying all the things when that’s clearly not all of us.

Yes I totally hear you! We live in a consumption-hungry society! It’s hard to go against the grain. I mean I want for things a LOT but I’m really trying to tone it down and go in the opposite direction.

This is what we don’t buy to keep me home- 1. A big / new house- We live in a small old one and probably always will. This is the number one thing that allows me to stay home. We converted half our garage when we needed an extra room. Saved us thousands and thousands vs moving. I think housing is one of the BIGGEST things that keep moms from being able to stay home. 2. New cars- Ours are old and smaller. 3. Hair- No more hair dying and all of the product. We can’t afford it now. 4. Costco membership - It ALWAYS makes us buy more and it’s always stuff like furniture. It’s like Target, but with three digit receipts every time you leave. 5. Big vacations- We have never spent more than about $2500 on a vacation. 6. We stay out of stores. When we wander stores we walk out with things we don’t need. 7. Most hired out help- Fortunately my husband can do most fixes and it saves us so much in an old house. If we had lived like this before kids we would have had so much money saved while I was still working. We bought so much junk at Target and the mall and it was all crap we don’t care about anymore. Live and learn.

Have you ever done a video about saving (or not) for kids’ college? This is a hard thing for us on one income while also trying to save for retirement. It’s the one thing that has me pretty stressed. The thing we DO spend on is good homeschool curriculum. God bless those that figure out free stuff. I am a sucker for curriculum.

Sarah, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who doesn't buy cards. I thought it was just me being cheap 😆 one thing I don't buy is books lol ... my kids get money for book fair twice a year and that's it. They get plenty of books leaving doctors appointments and family members. We are on the same page about bins. I have them every where. Yup, and they come from the dollar store. Question: if you don't buy bottled water...what are you using; sink water? Thanks for the tips ♥️

Yeah we drink sink water - we do have a filter pitcher. I have it in the budget to get a better purifier. I know sink water isn’t super healthy!

I don't buy makeup as i have really dry skin and can never find anything that works. Plus we live in MN so in the winter months my skin is so bad lol. We also do not have cable. We don't buy greeting cards as I make them with my Cricut. Homemade cards are so much more meaningful.

There is this constant changing skin care trend. Now there are these 'actives' and 'chemical peel' trend, which is so expensive for me ...I have stopped investing in my skincare, and i stick to wash my face twice a day routine. My skin has stopped breaking out and i feel so much better by saving a ton

I have a ridiculous stockpile of gift bags and tissue so I don't think I'll have to buy any more in my lifetime. I'm with you on most of your list except that I do have a Costco membership and therefore buy a good deal of bulk items but very mindfully so nothing goes to waste. Also, I still buy paper towels but I'm even more embarrassed that I still use disinfecting wipes. I'm committing to never buying them again after my supply runs out though.
@HomeschoolGlue
@HomeschoolGlue 2 жыл бұрын
I am not against Costco or buying in bulk at all - I just never got good at it and ended up buying things we didn’t use and would see some things for like $20 and throw them in the cart that I hadn’t planned. I think it’s amazing that you can buy in bulk and it be worth it!

Bath bombs are crazy $$$. I buy them as stocking stuffers and for Easter baskets as a fun extra. Not an everyday thing. The profit margins on those things must be AMAZING.

Yup. Bottled water. A lot of money per year for something you get for free. Juice is horrible for your kids. Just sugar, nothing nutritious, just spikes blood sugars. No beauty products. Hair colour from the supermarket. I bought my favourite perfume which was chanel and very expensive BUT I make it last and it has lasted me three years by keeping it in the fridge. Greeting cards are just trash bin fodder. You spend money on it and it goes straight in the bin. All holiday decorations I already have. I go to fancy suburbs for roadside pick up when they throw out expensive stuff....completely free. I make my own cleaners and my own lemon freshener for the bathroom. Towels I have are 15 years old and are still in near perfect condition. Make your own soap with lemon oil and lavender and rose oil. No fatty, salty, frankenfood. Just whole and natural food. We just keep all our clothing and shoes for a very long time, we look after our stuff. No pay TV, I have more useful things to do with my time. If I go anywhere which I want to remember, I will buy something I can use like a coffee cup or a tea towel. Shampoo bars are so much better and last for ages. Organic coconut oil for my hair and skin and cooking. Thrift stores in expensive neighbourhoods for clothing and shoes, lots of designer stuff. Make my own pasta and breads and cakes and cookies for when people come over. Look for all the free stuff on FB Marketplace and if it is within 5 miles of my house and I genuinely need it or having it will save me money, I will go get it. I use my car as little as possible. I walk everywhere I can, it's so much better for my health. My son is ASD and through our government we get $18,000 worth of free therapies for him per year so no need to pay for that. I don't use public transport. I don't drink or smoke. Make toothpaste. Works so much better than store bought. Coconut oil for deodorant. Coconut oil is an antiseptic, body odorous is caused by bacteria and Coconut oil kills bacteria. I Borrowed my friend's printer in exchange for coffee and home made short bread. Her husband is HARD work, so she gets to escape at my place for some respite and I get my printed stuff free and delivered to my door. Home decor I get from roadside pick ups in expensive neighbourhoods again. I have found thousands of dollars worth of stuff. I'm sure there are a ton more but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
