There is also a Payne's grey blue shade from daniel smith . Remember to look at the liquid charcoal stuff I told you about last week.

Windsor and Newton makes the original Davys Grey. It uses slate as one of the pigments.

I saw some oil brands that use slate as well. Thats really cool!

I really enjoy your tutorials and am intrigued by the tonalist landscapes you create. My problem is when I try to paint something in this style, my hake brush doesn’t get the same “straggly” effects as you do. Is it because my brush is too new? Could you recommend a different brush or tool to get the great effects you do? My brush seems to soft or something. Thanks so much!!

I'm thinking that its due to the age of my brush...and hard use. I have explored ways to prematurely wear down brushes and I can retouch on that if you'd like. (Eventually I'm going to need to replace this brush anyway :)!)

Just did this tutorial + loved how mine turned out. Question, how do you clean your hake brush? Do you just rinse with water or also use a cleaner for brushes?
