In part 3 of the 440 Source 543 inch stroker build we take a look at what it takes to stuff that big crank inside a factory 440 block.

Awesome build. Looking forward to the progress. What are you doing for heads and induction on this behemoth? 543 ci is gonna gulp some serious air !!

I'm building a 543 for my 74 pro street Duster. I'll be using Trick Flow 270 heads, and I'm hoping to see 10's with it at 6000' altitude next summer. I'm curious.......what's the appropriate insurance to strengthen the block, if you might be going over that 600 hp or so block limit? Main cap studs, billet caps, 4 bolt mains, a girdle? Thanks!

did you drill or reem the main saddles? (i've found broken drill tips and not drilled all the way through when factory went too many blocks on a bit) what year block? That's a lot less grinding than I've had to do on 4 1/2

I'm building a 512 stroker 440 but although not quite as heavy as the Imperial will be going in a street truck so am going your direction on the camshaft. Not sure what 'CS Special Roller' means though. I'm interested if you'd made any progress.

I had always heard that with a 440 anything much over 4.125 stroke would need a external oiling system. Well it looks like you were able to keep your stock type oil pickup tube. My next 440 build might also be a 543 stroker instead of a 512 like I usually do but I am still not sure if I like the idea of the piston being so short that the oil rings go into pin area. Have there been any big issue regarding that type of piston setup?

What are your rocker ratios and durations at ,200? that's a lot of lift for those durations (IMHO)

Good Info here, I'm looking at a 413 wedge motor. Is it safe to bore to 426ci so I can use the 426ci to 526CI stroker kit from 440 source?

You need to check the bores before boring excessively. Finding pistons might be a little more of a challenge for the 426 bore.

@@RidgewoodMachine 440 source do a 426ci to 526CI stroke kit, full rotating assembly. Pistons, rods, crank etc. My friends got the 413ci in a shed in NZ. Hoping he wil ship it back here to the UK. I'm planning a 41 willys gasser but don't want the usual chevy or ford motor.

Sounds nice. Be sure to match the pistons to the heads for the proper compression. I'd suggest the Trick Flow 270 or something larger.

It's a shame all that iron and this blocks can't handle much over 700hp

They will handle well over 700 hp. It depends on how high you rev it. My turbo 440 held over 800 hp for thousands of street miles before I sold the car.
