I started a resto mod on a 1955 3100 a little over a year ago with my daughter for her first vehicle. Haven’t made much time for it lately but this inspires me to get started on it again. Thanks and keep it up.

Love your other channel. But this channel is excellent. I’m not mechanically inclined, but I love watching frame up restorations. I always learn so much. BTW I can tell you are loving what you are doing. Stay strong. I’m sure the channel will grow.

Man, what an awesome comment! Thanks so much, I work real hard on these videos and still second guess the finished product. The encouragement goes a long way - but even more, I love knowing that I created something that can be enjoy. Thanks again!

You should have heated up the bent section while using the press to straighten it. You would have probably had to clean it good first though so you would not have a fire. I am a bit of a perfectionist, so I would have filled in that top part of the frame rail and ground it off to make it look great. JB Weld is great stuff! It is strong.

I thought about using the torch but decided against it as it weakens the material. Especially since it’s the front of the frame.

Did you ever consider boxing your frame? Working on my truck frame now and can't decide if I should box it in or leave it. What are your thoughts?
@intheshoptv
@intheshoptv 9 ай бұрын
If you check some of my later videos, I boxed the front where I did an independent front suspension, and I boxed a small portion of the rear where I installed a 4-link. But I didn’t box the whole frame because its not a high-hp build or meant for road courses and such. Its just going to be a fun cruiser so I opted to spend the extra money and time on other aspects of the build.

@@intheshoptv My build will be quite similar. It will end up being about a 500hp street cruiser. I have people telling me I should just do it. My frame is boxed like yours where I put in the Mustang II front end. I just can't decide if it's worth the time.
@intheshoptv
@intheshoptv 9 ай бұрын
@@N8z14 it depends on how hard you drive it, (fast cornering etc). There’s the added weight and if you’re not getting the benefits of boxing it by just cruising, I didn’t see the reward. But only you know how you’ll end up using it, and if its worth your time and money. Another thing… Im not a fan of putting so much heat (from all the welding) into this 70 yr old frame. If I want a fully boxed frame, I’d look for a full aftermarket built frame. Hope that makes sense

Do you have any videos on how you took the cab &bed off
@intheshoptv
@intheshoptv 2 жыл бұрын
Hey James, so the bed is just nuts and bolts and comes off in individual panels. There is a quick clip of me removing the cab in the previous video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKTFhKmioLmMl68 Basically, I used the engine hoist (or cherry picker) and built a quick beam out of 2x4’s that I placed through both door openings under the roof or top of the cab. I loosened the 4 cab bolts and with a few pumps on the hoist, the cab lifted right off. With it hanging in the air, we just rolled the frame out from underneath! Hope that makes sense. Its was pretty quick, easy and straightforward. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Hey Mike, nice work welding and repairing the frame, BTW, Justice Brothers ( JB Weld ) had my back for decades! I didn't see it , but did you check the frames' diagonals between the front and rear cross members before you started to remove the front X-member. The GM "ladder frames" are racked sometimes when hit. What other plans do you have for the frame? Glad to see another video, don't know how I missed this one until this morning, this is good stuff keep them coming! I asked my wife and brother, none of the names you mentioned are familiar, then again we are much older than you are no doubt.

Yes! The frame is within 3/16’s square after the repair so I’ll call that “ok”. So Im planning to do an independent front suspension and 4 link the rear. Thinking of using a Ford 8.8 rear as they are really stout and already come with disks/posi (tru-track). But of course that all can change depending upon how wild my mind and bank account run and/or deplete lol.
@Brooklyn-bn5go
@Brooklyn-bn5go 2 жыл бұрын
@@intheshoptv If you haven't picked up an 8.8 when you go hunting look for an Explorer they have 31 spline axles, I jumped on an 8.8 Mustang with 28 splines with 3.73s, and kinda regret it. Since you can weld shortening the one side should be no problem.
@intheshoptv
@intheshoptv 2 жыл бұрын
@@Brooklyn-bn5go Exactly! A 96-01 Explorer rear is what Im looking for. Found one real cheap but it had 4:10’s and I think Id rather have the 3:73’s. The good news is that there are a ton of them out there.
