Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a blistering attack on Congress after the party’s Sam Pitroda appeared to advocate for a US-style inheritance tax amid the ongoing debate over wealth redistribution. The comments have further fuelled an already-raging controversy over Rahul Gandhi’s promise to conduct a wealth survey if the Congress won the Lok Sabha election.
In an interview with news agency ANI, Indian Overseas Congress chairman Sam Pitroda backed his party’s stand on redistribution of wealth and called for a policy for the same while citing the concept of inheritance tax prevailing in some American states.

Statements of Mr. Pitroda on inheritance taxes is being misinterpreted. In western countries the Government takes away more than FIFTY PERCENT OF THE WEALTH owned by any wealthy individual. Inheritance tax is also known as *DEATH DUTY*. In western countries everybody has the right to earn any amount of money during his lifetime. But after the death of the person the State takes away a substantial amount as per rules of the country, as Death Duty. But the State never takes away the entire wealth of the deceased from his legal heirs. So there is nothing wrong if it is applied in our country to the Super Rich people.

Why should public get half of it??? Money is not something that is born out of trees, it is the result of hardwork of an individual for years not for dividing it but to leave it for his future generations to come. The most suffered will be the middle class from this tax, not earning more and paying half of the property as tax, the rich will not get affected by it and the people who prosper the most will be the illiterate politicians who will divide that 55% among themselves.

In most of developed world including Europe there is inheritance tax and even if let say there is country that doesn’t have inheritance tax and a Indian citizen want to relocate there his property will still remain in India. He either has to sell that property if he does he has to pay taxes on that and thats almost 40% for HNI. if he doesn’t when he dies his children has to pay inheritance tax to get the property transferred to there name no matter where they live.

There is no federal inheritance tax in the US. Only 3-4 states have state inheritance tax and 3-4 states have state estate tax and these too have varying rates. It takes a simple google search to know the facts. And anyway Gandhi family would be one of the first ones to owe inheritance tax to the union government 😂
