Tim, When the foundation is poured, for a home that is a precast type, rebar in incorporated into the foundation, about every 3 or 4 feet around the entire perimeter of the foundation. That rebar sticks up about 2 or 3 feet above the foundation & slab. Each precast panel is manufactured with a several holes in the bottom of each precast section, corresponding to the same 3 or 4 foot rebar spacing. When a crane lifts the precast panel, the panel is placed down onto the rebar that sticks out of the slab. The alignment of the foundation rebar and the holes in the bottom of each panel, strengthens the home. There are also a series of wire hoops installed in the ends of each panel when the panels were manufactured. After the panels are put in place with a crane, a series of rebar type rods and grout are placed in the tongue and groove end joints between every 2 abutting precast panels, along the entire perimeter. The foundation rebar, the wire hoops, and the grout are each designed to strengthen the walls and their connectivity, and to reduce the likelihood that even hurricane strength winds could move the home off the foundation, or destroy the precast home. The metal hurricane tie-down straps sticking out of the top of each precast, are used to fasten each panel to the roof truss system. Again, designed to strengthen the precast home, and to resist hurricane winds and potential wind damage. The “street of dreams” (aka Katie Kieth Loop) has 42 numbered lots (including the couple that are currently mulched over for use as parking areas). Several of the homes on that street are not yet open as model homes. I think there are about 33 or so actual model homes that can be walked thru on the street of dreams in Shady Brook. Tom

Thank you! I was wondering how this is done. My husband and I built several homes that were all wood frame. Even the one with brick front and sides was wood frame. Seems like reconfiguring layout or adding-on may be more challenging in tilt wall or even block.
