I own one of these. It ain't cheap, and it ain't a tack driver by any stretch...but if you need an extremely light weight concealable carbine in 5.56/.223 (that you don't expect to invade Mogadishu with...although I did invade Mogadishu in 93' with the USMC and I would take this rifle with me there with confidence if I had to.) and you just need it to kill the occasional varmint or worse! ....to defend your life in under 300 yards (with confidence)...then this is your carbine...Fair Warning: Because of the high tech polymer construction of this special carbine...plan to burn through a box of 50 - 100 rounds of brass cased ammo (it will fire steel, but manufacturer states at your own risk to your health!) to 'break it in'...after that....I've fired 2,000 rounds of every kind of brass ammo from 5.56 to .223 and have never had a problem...Great Tool!

I'm running a "Tactical" version, up here in Kanuckistan. I had a catastophic failure on mine, the area where an AR 15 buffer would be. It tore that area out, from what I'm hearing/seeing on the web it's one of the most common failures. But KT replaced it no issues!

I have shot around 1500 rounds so far. No problems at all. 3inch group at 100 with a fixed 4x scope. I would not take it to combat, but for survival/protection I think it's great.

@michaellewis5624 As a crusty old army guy 3 inches isn't outstanding, but qualifications with a 7.62x51 FNC1 was a 6" group. 3" means you can still put a round into a head sized area.

@@TheHide have you found the weak part on the KELP TEC SU-16 rifle yet ?
@christopherreeves79154 жыл бұрын
I won one of these rifles and it has been good too me. It is reliable and fun to shoot. Just throw a red dot on it and you are good to go. The only thing that sucks is the stock mags. I highly recommend the Magpul P-Mags, because they are 100% reliable.

I bought my SU16 as a (fireable) folding stock 'C' back in 'h08, and have run thousands of rounds through it; the only problems have been a fouled chamber from steel ammo. I currently run it as a 'CA', with a nonfireable 'A' stock, making it a 'CA'. The SU16 was first produced in the 1990s and were designed around metal mags, since polymer was rare and unreliable: in fact, the stock will hold a 30rd GI mag in lieu of the 10rd Kel-Tec mags--which many owners throw away, anyway.

Take a flat piece of flat narrow wood. Using a piece of sandpaper, you can clear up what may be holding the mags. Sand, try a mag, repeat as necessary. Thanks for the video. I enjoy mine as well. I tend to shoot this more than others.

I wished I had kept mine, but the back of the receiver cracked when I first got it on the first range trip and although Keltec fixed it free and in only 14 days including shipping, I lost faith in it. I also didn’t like how the bipod/fore-end got hot when I would shoot a bunch rapid fire. It’s was a good gun, but I lost faith in it and my AR 15 pistol is just as compact and it doesn’t have the issues the Keltec did. I also have a PLR16 and it’s ridiculously fun, but I worry about it’s longevity too. I can’t sell it though, it’s too much fun… and stupid loud! 😉

howdy,now thats the only thing holding me up on getting one,i personally at present do not know anyone who owns a su16 so im going off of articles youtube etc,was your su16 a su16e as so far thats the only model that i have heard of with the receiver cracking,ty as any input will be helpful and appreciated.
@scubaguy0073 жыл бұрын
@@kurtkrill5300 mine was a SU16CA, and it was one of the very first ones made. I chose it because back then it was the only one with a threaded barrel. It also didn’t have the goofy tall orange front sight, which I could see hanging up in a backpack. It said in the manual to not shoot hot 5.56 ammo in it, my response was how would I know hot ammo from standard ammo. The guy at Keltec told me most NATO designated 5.56 would be considered hot. He also told me that it would best to just use .223 in the SU16. They did fix mine in a hurry which impressed the crap out of me. Like I said at the beginning I wished I kept mine, it was a fun gun, and I only paid $399+tax for the gun if I remember correctly it was $399, it might have been $389. I just remember laying $400 on the counter and saying will you take this? I remember his response was "Even Uncle Sam’s gotta get paid, he’s got a family to support to." That made me laugh and it still makes me smile. The only other issue was the bi-pod/hand-guard getting hot if you shot 4 or 5 mags in a row, but that wasn’t a deal breaker, it was just something that annoyed me. They really are fun guns, and I would recommend it for the lightweight purpose use. It weighed the same as my wood stock Ruger 10/22, about 5lbs.

Yeah I sold this one a while back also. Kind of wish Id hung onto it but I always go back to my 5.56sbr as my primary carbine so everything else just seems to be a snapshot in time. Thanks for watching!

It's definitely nice, but I think it's in between two better choices. If you want super light, the sub 2k is lighter and smaller. If you want range, the rfb doesn't have to be unfolded to be accurate and is still short enough for a decent sized bag.

I like the idea of a foldable backpack gun but here in VA, our CHP (concealed handgun permit) only allows for handguns - not knives, not rifles. So it would be illegal to have it in a backpack. Anyone else in this situation? Doesn't make sense to me.

@@TheHide the KEL-TEC SU 16C is a folding stock model, faster to unfold and can be fired with the shoulder stock folded. Trade yours in for a SU 16C model or just buy a folding stock from the KEL-TEC company. This 5.55mm rifle is waaaaay more effective than pistol .45acp, 9mm, etc calibers. Use the OKAY Industries 20 round & 30 round aluminum magazines for 'drop-free' speed. The OKAY Industries AR15 magazines are very popular and better quality than the synthetic plastic Magpul PMAGS. I stopped buying PMAGS for my KEL-TEC rifle because they are to heavy and NOT drop-free ! ⚠Never install a silencer onto the KEL-TEC SU 16C. The receiver cannot take the higher back-pressure speed of the bolt from an attached silencer.
