When you're trying to date a building, try to give us a look at the nails in it. We can at least date it as prior to or after 1900 based on the nails. Before 1900 they used hand forged square nails. The round wire nails came into common use around 1900.

I still make hand-forged nails and spikes. Roseheads and that sort of thing. Also, Tremont Nail Company in Mansfield, Mass. is still manufacturing cut nails and I'm pretty sure it's the oldest continually operating nail manufacturer in the USA.
@rupe533 жыл бұрын
you can also date (somewhat) by the dimensions of cut lumber. IOW, real sawn 2 by or 4 by that's not planed smooth. There's also hand hewn beams that would certainly be prior to 1900. Hand saw marks versus power saw marks can be another clue. Anything cut with a chain saw would be after WWII. BTW, it was common for masons to use cut nails even in the 1960s but that's usually near a chimney where they were working. The rest of the structure would be round nails.

The small sticks/debris in the mine entrance are Pack Rat/Woodrat houses. Not the same as regular rats, they build complex houses or dens made of twigs, cactus joints, and other materials. These contain several nest chambers, food caches, and debris piles. Dens are often built in small caves or rocky crevices. They use ancient nests (plant materials, pollen, etc) to speculate that areas where the Anasazi and Hopi Indians once lived in the cliffs was much wetter/greener then, and were abandoned due them harvesting the limited trees that once grew there which led to drier conditions.

Found this on google Located at the southwestern end of the Pequop Range, Spruce Mountain rises to over 10,000 feet. This is substantially higher than the lower ridgelines of the rest of the Pequop Range. As such, views from the summit are astounding. The Nevada Department of Transportation has a radio / communication facility at the mountaintop. An access road switchbacks up the mountain's steep north face to just below the summit. Around the summit, bristlecone pines grow together with limber pines in a mixed conifer forest. The ghostown of Sprucemont is located on the lower west side of the mountain, where abandoned buildings stand among piles of mining debris. At the height of mining activity, a few thousand people lived in the area.

The very first settlers built log cabins with chimneys made from wood logs then lined it with mud in an attempt to fireproof which often failed so they built the chimneys on the outside walls, tilted them slightly away from the house attached with two small supports which could be quickly knocked off allowing the flaming chimney to fall away from the house. Initially, archaeologists didn't understand the straight lines of burned wood leading away from the foundations of the cabins

At about 7:04 or so...it was not unusual for a frame to be built on a wall to put a short chimney on. You only need a chimney that goes through the roof. It doesn't have to start at the floor. This style of short chimney saved time, labor and materials. You nail together a supporting framework and then start the mason work on top of that. Hope that made sense(8-). Regarding buying that place, I'm afraid I'm a few nickels shy for buying something like that...but thanks for the offer, Darlin'(8-). And thanks for sharing this great video.

The mountains in that part of the state look deceptively low because the rest of the land is fairly high above sea level. For example, my land in Pilot Valley is 5,000 feet in elevation, thus making nearby Pilot Peak (10,750 feet high) look not so tall.

@johnbartholf7773 жыл бұрын
@@rondav8008 I actually know this! After the American Revolution, English place-names fell out of favor (often ending in ...ton, like so many places that were settled in the early colonies, Boston, Wilmington, Charleston, Burlington, and other English names like York and Jersey), and the fashion became to use Indian names and the French term "...ville" throughout the 1800s all the way out west. You can easily tell which towns and cities were pre- and post- Revolution, as in Jacksonville, Greenville, Nashville, et al.

The Spruce Mountain molybdenum-silver porphyry project is located in North Eastern Nevada, USA, about 40 miles south of Wells, 25 miles north of the town of Currie. It is a prospective property for molybdenum, with copper, silver, gold and rhenium by-products. The property is located in the Spruce Mountain lead-silver mining district. To date, approximately $5 million worth of lead and silver has been mined at the location from four lead/silver mines contained within the property. These are the Monarch, Black Forest, Kille and Spruce Standard Mines. That being said we're only asking $295,000 for the property so if we thought it would be gold or silver producing in the near future this is not the case. It would be a good recreational property with potential for minerals down the road. The location has good accessibility year round with good quality gravel roads and railway lines within 25 miles of the property. During winter months access can be restricted due to snow and not maintained roads
