This is amazing. I did a bunch of tech work on modems and phone systems in the 1990s. Kraftwerk had "The Telephone Call" for the phone system sounds, but this is the first treatment I have seen using modem tones. Awesome creativity inside a very constrained space.

Hello Phillip. This is probably a really weird question, but since you did tech work on modems I figure you might know. I'm a journalist (student) and I keep hearing the same sound effect for dial-up internet everywhere. E v e r y w h e r e. I think it might make an interesting story to know where it comes from - it's linked in the description of this video (look under "ORIGINAL SOUND" and on that website it's the first audio file you can play) and I've come across a bunch of KZbin videos that all play this same exact sound effect. I've heard it on the radio, in movies, and I've even come across a KZbin video that claims it's a fax machine sound effect. It's a very distinct series of tones that I can't imagine this is what *all* dial-up internet sounded like... do you happen know where this typified sound effect comes from?
