Whilst out tabbing with my good friend Dom (Limeypipesmoker91, check out his channel for pipe reviews and rambles) I decided to review my set of webbing. Blame Dom for this, he LIKED the first review!
Sorry about the audio quality, but it was windy in Wakering! Hopefully the annotations should help.

I was issued this. The sleeping bag went inside the large pack with one set of clothing. The Falklands proved how useless the large pack was with individuals, in the army, adopting the Paras and RM examples at personal expense, however the GS Bergan was introduced but was still to small for 'non-mech' deployments. It wasn't till the introduction of PLCE, in the very late eighties, did the military have a decent size Bergen..!

Jim Richards thanks for the comment! Always love to hear from the soldiers who actually used the kit. It's interesting to hear that the sleeping bag went inside the large pack as that must have taken some extreme packing techniques to get that AND the uniform inside. Thanks again for commenting! I often forget the video exists.

It strapped on top of the large pack....hence the 2 long thin straps

@poik12 Hi, sorry for the late reply! The 58 Pattern yoke attaches to the belt using two "C" hooks (similar to the hooks on 37 pattern webbing kit). It really needs the small pockets on the inside of the belt to marry up with and keep it stable, but if these pockets aren't on the belt, it can be used by pinching the hooks closed around the belt, just don't expect it to be as strong a connection. Hope that helps!

Hi there, The pouches are similar in size to the older 37 pattern pouches, however I have never owned an Airsoft Sten so I can't say for sure. They did fit the old sterling SMG mags though, so it might not be too hard to fit them in there.

58 marked a real turning point for the army,as did 44,nothing to polish, the bane of CSM,RSM WO,s and possibly NCO alike.A sod to use when wet,it shrank also, was difficult to decontaminate, and the large pack was a salient point and hard lesson to recruits to pack properly and wisely on exercise, then largely discouraged in favour of a removed shovel tab,if you could, and a more sensible bergen rucksack.

Would these hold m4 mags?

Hi! Yes it would, though because of the depth of the pouch you would not be extracting them very quickly.

The "sh_t" set is still actually the *better* set! Just needs to be "jacked up" properly. Bin the cape carrier, carry an Aussie issue shelter sheet in one of the W/B pouches - just enough space for cordage and pegs, too. Bin the far right W/B pouch, fit a '44 W/B pouch - contains millbank bag, '44 mug and '44 or '58 W/B. Strap from Amm pouch ring to Amm pouch ring which also holds in the base of the W/B pouches (mod required). Kidney pouches too high, too bulky and not so good at holding bespoke items. Ammo pouches good: one of the problems when we switched to SA80 was that GPMG gunners couldn't carry link in their CEFO. A pity about the wind. First time I've heard the term "fat c_nt" used on KZbin... :->

Simon Signolet bugger me people are still watching these XD. You're entirely correct! This video was done at a time when such things were either out of our price range, or simply unknown. For example, that's the first I've heard of a hootchie being carried instead of a poncho or basha, but I love the sound of that! Since this was put up I've gained a few 44 water bottle pouches and other sundry bits of "allier" kit, but mostly those are either on my sets of Aussie 56 webbing or Rhodesian style rigs. Sadly the 58 doesn't see much use anymore as my interests have moved on to some of the more weird and wonderful stuff. Also, I'm still a fat c*nt ;P Thanks for your comment!

Simon, PLCE webbing had the utility pouch which was purpose made to be adopted as an Ammo pouch or general use. I used the Mag pouches on my left side(as that the side I loaded from) and a utility pouch on my right for smoke or other such munitions.

Long time ago, but as everyone who tries to do this omits the Respirator bag so it is NOT a 58 load out at all. Thumbs down for very inacurate info. I know this as i wore it for 8 years back in the '80's BAOR.

Jesus people still watch this!? XD thanks for commenting, and, you're absolutely right. In my defence at the time I didn't own the resi case or an s6. In fact, I now don't even own the rig anymore. However, you are indeed correct that at the time of issue, cbrn kit was issued and carried at all times due to the fear of such weaponry being used, especially if the 3rd shock army (or whatever it was called) decided to roll across the border. Alas, at the time such things were less of a concern for an unemployed enthusiast who hadn't bothered at that point to do the proper research. Please rest assured that no offence was intended to your good self, or your fellow soldiers who served in the cold War and numerous small wars fought between the end of WW2 and the first Gulf War. If you have any more insights regarding the kit and how it was worn/used, please don't hesitate to reply! This video doesn't see much traffic i believe, but it may be useful for those who continue to come across it in the future :) Thanks again!
