59.F0 Error HP M477 HP M452 How to fix!! How to replace transfer belt and fuser

Step by step guide on how to fix this common issue on both the M477 MFP and the M452 base printer model.
The error starts usually as intermittent and goes away after rebooting the printer but eventually will end up in a permanent error. If you have one of these models it is only a matter of time before you see this error!!

If it works when you put it back together you 100% deserve a medal. I'm good on them now, but the first 10 times or so I did it were iffy. Usually forgot to plug the interconnect board ribbon cable back into dc controller, so I'd get a blank display when I turned it on.

This is fantastic, thanks! I found here because I needed to clean the transfer belt of a printer someone gave me for repair. The magenta toner leaked. So: get the belt unit out, clean it, put it back in - all good.

Thanks for the video. It helped me to open de printer, takte out the fuser and find the paper wrapped around the roller INSIDE the fuser 🤣😂 But it was already baked onto the roller. I can't unwrap the paper from the roller. So I have to exchange the roller itself.🤞

Honestly the covers are the hardest part. Maybe try taking the covers off first, then if you are successful with getting them off go ahead and order the new belt. If you have the 452 printer only version, the covers are a little easier than the 477 but still tougher than other models.

No. You probably need to replace the fuser if it boots straight up to that message. If it only happens after you send a job to it, it would most likely need pickup roller replaced.

@@JAYCRIMINAL1 probably needs fuser replaced, pretty common on these. Make sure you get the correct one, simplex and duplex fusers are different.

I think you must make sure the cartridge tray is in open position when you remove the back parts. There is a spring on the right near the wire connections that will pop out and impossible to replace!! The tray gets stuck inside and when you install or slide the new transfer case part it will not fit properly. I was unable to salvage mine. Thank you for the video but please be more descriptive and provide some of the areas to watch for when doing this repair.

Great Video - thank you! I have an HP 477 FDW - smudging/copying information on the left side when I print out documents. When scanning electronically to my computer the page cuts off and the entire document is being saved. What do you think the causes are? Do I need to replace the Fuser or a combination of the fuser and the transfer belt? Fuser P/N? Transfer Belt P/N?. Thanks.

If you are getting smearing on printouts, it is most likely the fuser. I have not seen a transfer belt on this model cause any print quality issues as of yet. Duplex fuser is RM2-6460, simplex fuser is RM2-6431. Transfer belt is RM2-6454.

For a printer with Event Code 13.10.14 but no actual paper jam, I took it apart to be sure and found nothing. Do you have experience with that error code? its a MFP480.

Fusers can also cause jamming issues. They're a little easier to swap than the transfer belt.

Ah, I wish there were videos about replacing the belt alone, not the entire assembly. The assembly for my M254nw costs 180 EUR, and for that price, I can almost buy a new printer (150nw costs 200 EUR). However, I can get the belt alone from China for about 50 EUR, and then it would be worth repairing. I found only a few Russian videos about replacing the belt alone. It's quite tricky but doable. No idea, why English people don't do that :D

@@KenKyleRacing Yeah, even HP repair manuals do not have instructions for replacing the belt separately; so that's an unofficial repair. I cannot post a direct link to the video because of KZbin filters, but the best and newest video (in Russian) I found is titled as follows: Hp Color LaserJet M252 замена плёнки переноса изображения You can skip to 14:25 where he disassembles the ITB unit and replaces the belt itself. It's quite finicky and the belt is quite fragile - a slip of the screwdriver is unforgivable. Unfortunately, it is not always visible what exactly he's doing, but at least it shows the general idea. If the belt can get damaged that easily by paper and toner dust, manufacturers should make it user-replaceable as a disposable. I'm all for rights-to-repair :)

Printing blank pages after changing the transfer belt, any ideas?

@TravThompson i had that happen once, a second transfer belt fixed it. Make sure you get the plastic pawls seated properly in the side after putting new belt in. Might be worth double checking those are in correctly on current belt as well. Weird thing on mine, after i got blank pages on new belt, i put original belt in that was having intermittent 59 errors and i got blank pages with that one too. 2nd new belt and it was back to normal again. Still baffled by that entire experience.

Removing it and re-seating it fixed my problem. Worked for a little bit but my error returned. I think it’s a solenoid issue, looking for that video now :)

Entirely dependent on if you find a competent person to do it, you'd be surprised how rare it is in this field. It only takes half an hour tops for me to replace one, the belt itself costs anywhere from 80-350 depending on whether it is remanufactured or if it's brand new directly from HP.

Pretty common issue, sensor on fuser probably knocked out of place or broken. Replace the fuser.

Today I cleaned the belt on my own M477, put it back in, but NO...the printer refuses to print or copy anything in color. The event log shows a recent "Color plane registration sensor error" but what is this thing? Where's that sensor located?

It is failing the calibration because there is color. Probably needs a new transfer belt but I have also seen nearly end of life toner cartridges cause it to not print color

@@KenKyleRacingThanks, it printed color just fine before I cleaned the transfer belt - except for a few spots (reason I attempted to clean it in the first place). Also, all cartridges are well over 50% full. I'll continue to look for that sensor as the official manual - HP document number c05049253 - says "the sensor might need to be replaced". Maybe I just need to clean it once I find it.

@fhisg 50% doesn't mean anything, the cartridges are rated for a specific number of pages and once you go past that number they can cause all kinds of issues. I think black is good for 2600 and the colors are good for 2000. There is nothing to clean on the belt, if there were print quality issues previously it would be the color the issue was with. The fuser can also cause print quality issues when it is worn out, those will typically be colored splotches towards the side of the printed page

I forgot to mention that I also tried swapping cartridges with the ones from a working M477. It made no difference, only got black & white copies. Do you happen to know what this "plane registration sensor" is? Which unit is it part of?

According to an HP representative that sensor is inside the transfer belt unit. Running Print Quality > Color Calibration and Service > Cleaning multiple times eventually seems to have resolved the issue.

It would be the fuser causing that error, I think the correct part number is RM2-6418. Duplex and simplex machines take different fusers so you want to make sure you get the correct one.

Just because toner is full doesn't mean the drum inside the cartridge isn't shot. They are light sensitive, so leaving the drum exposed to light will kill them pretty quickly. On this model I have not seen anything outside of the cartridges cause light printing (assuming machine has not been taken apart). If machine has been taken apart, I have seen other technicians damage the leads on the ribbon cable on formatter and cause very light print on black only. You should print solid pages of black, red, blue and yellow to verify if it is one specific color or all 4.

@@r.t.1942 definitely could be aftermarket toner, that's definitely a lot more likely than machine causing it. Transfer belt could cause light print but I have not seen one go bad in that way on this model yet.

You don’t need to replace the belt in 90% of these machines. There’s a FW update for the DC controller that fixes it.

Done that a bunch of times, gets called back 100% of the time. If you are charging per service call tho, I could see why the customer wouldn't call you back. We do contract work, so they don't pay anything for having us come out.

@@KenKyleRacing I work for Xerox at a major hospital group and we have pretty much been retiring and replacing with M454 and M479. The new models haven't failed yet. I actually prefer Lexmark printers as they don't seem to have as many errors as HP does.

That part number doesn't exist in the manual or on google, I'd guess it's probably a piece of the fuser, but that is just a guess. Fusers and transfer belts are about the only things that go bad on these models.

Its not the transfer belt. Its the solenoid in back that drives the transfer belt.

@@KenKyleRacing Its in back of the printer and kinda hard to get to. You can use a thin blade and scrape it clean because its tuff to remove. Theres a few videos on here about it. The soleniod engages and disengaes the transfer belt.

@RyanHacecky probably didn't get one of the plastic things on side of printer inserted correctly. I had one where i didn't seat either properly and ended up having to replace the belt. Those plastic pieces that go into side of transfer belt are what controls the engagement of the charge rollers. One for black and the other is for colors.
