Hey @WonderHussy, great video! Just a friendly reminder to those viewing that Nipton is private property. Please seek permission before attempting to investigate or you'll likely be trespassed. With that said, everyone that has been here by way of seeing this video has been super polite and cool. You have great followers! Keep up the good work and to all, remember to be respectful when visiting remote areas of the High Desert. And have water with you. :) Happy exploring!

@@Wonderhussy Yes Nipton is a special place sad to see the person that burned the last owner still manipulate her to late him stay .. That dude Stephen doesn't have a cool bone in his body. He would pour water in you if you were dying of thirst n the desert... He's a narcissist sociopath that, I don't think he is even capable of making a true statement and finds joy with other peoples suffering at his account.. Speak up about it he will personally or have someone call police and lie to get you arrested even at peak covid time.. Yes i am not a fan of him or any person that objectifies women and controls damaged girls 20 years younger by number but 40 years younger emotionally and psychologically he is nobody. Again not a fan of cowards that use the promise of millions to stay with him and and then be a puppet for the lie of having millions one day..

Nipton is a small town located in southern Mojave Wasteland, ravaged by Caesar's Legion in 2281. After the Great War, it gained a seedy reputation under the leadership of Mayor Joseph B. Steyn. Following the NCR Correctional Facility prison break, Steyn extended a hand to the Powder Gangers letting them know Nipton was open for trade. Steyn was able to arrange servicing NCR soldiers in the night and Powder Gangers in the day and keep the two separated. The town's undoing came when Steyn arranged a deal with Caesar's Legion to turn over both NCR soldiers and Powder Gangers to Vulpes Inculta in return for 8,000 caps.

I started getting into star gazing in 1999 and my wife and I went to Nipton to stay in the hotel and star gaze. We really like the hotel as it cozy and had really dark skies. For the 2000 New Year celebration we booked a room at the hotel and the hotel owners had the cafe (which was not in operation) opened up for the New Year's celebration by the hotel guests. A grand way to bring in the new millennium. Another neat happening was when a train pulled up short of the highway and the engineers jumped off the train, went into the general store to get soft drinks and sandwiches, and then walked back to the train and drove off. What a hoot!

Had a friend of the family jump off a BNSF train on the Columbia River near Cape Horn, scrambled down the rock screed to have a beer with my Dad and his Bro! Mid 80’s - innocent but damed cool true story. You stimulated a youth memory of men long gone in a time never to be repeated because of legal liabilities and the super litigious world we live. They all hopped back on the train and headed home. Dads boat was his happy hour bar for sure.

The café used to be a great place to get a high stacked burger, fries, and a craft beer. They also sold ice cream which was perfect for a warm day in the desert. I wonder if they were originally grown for rail road ties. The eucalyptus you see growing in places along Highway 99 in the Central Valley of California were originally planted for that purpose but it was later discovered they wrong species was planted so they were left standing to this day, I believe.

@@briang70 They are all over the western states, and I think they were brought in in the late 1800's /early 1900's to be just what they are there in Nipton...wind breaks and shade. Require little water, fairly fast growing, don't seasonally drop all their leaves at once...ideal!

Thanks for the video! Besides groceries, and sodas, snacks, and Ice cream bars for the tourists, the Nipton Trading Post used to carry lots of books about local desert and mining history, as well as local field guides. They also had turquoise jewelry. The cafe had great burgers, and was a fun place for supper after a day of local hiking. On special occasions they had steaks, which was always great.

Just between Nipton and Searchlight is a relatively small area filled with cacti that are unusual for that area. You enter a beautiful Joshua tree forest filled with huge barrel cacti, cholla and prickly pear. Not sure which species the barrel cacti are, but they are by far the largest barrel cacti I have ever seen north of the lower Sonoran Desert. It is a beautiful area and I want to return and study the ecosystem more. I sure hope the motel opens up again. Thank you for making this video. I have stopped and walked around in Nipton several times over the years, but I knew nothing about those Burning Man sculptures. Way cool.

As a huge fan of the computer game Fallout: New Vegas, I love that you are actually showing so many of the key locations in the game like Nipton, Primm, and others. Have you visited Goodsprings yet? The Pioneer Saloon is in the game too, and from what I understand once a year the whole place is set upon by all sorts of gamers dressed as characters from the game, as well as more casual "normal" fans. It's not as big or as wild as Burning Man for sure, but it could be worth a visit with lots of photo opportunities. The game has a huge fan base, and I'm sure they would love all your videos as much as I do once they discover them. I'm still catching up on your past work and having a ball doing it. BTW your gummies really work. I haven't slept that well in years.
