I certainly agree that using the wizard to enter the values is a horrible idea. But if you have set up the lookup table, the wizard does a very good job of setting up a combo box and setting up the relationship. So, like many things, how you use it will determine whether it’s evil.

At minute 6:10 in this video you demonstrated how to copy from the expression builder into the new table column. Valuable tip for me at least. Thanks for another great video.

I get the point about usuing them for value lists, but are they still "evil" if you set them up with a table reference?

Completely understand why you wouldn’t want lookup lists inside tables. However, I hear a degree of opposition against lookup functions using dedicated external tables too. Some people think it will corrupt the database. I don’t understand why? Can you explain if there are any risks with the better approach?

While it's bad for a data that will inevitably grow, why would it be evil in the case of an inventory list for oil paints that have properties like toxicity, opaque or transparent, organic or synthetic?

I will not only be tracking the amount of materials I use but also might interested in seeing only organic paints or to generally have the properties of the paint on that particular table that will also contain the cost of the paint per tube and the amount I have on hand. I am just getting started and its true, I don't know exactly what the end product will look like but for fields that literally have limited, staple answers (toxicity: None, Wet, Dry, Ingested, Inhaled or TintStrength: Intense, High, Low, Average) is it really a bad application?
