If convert the file to accde or accdr the flicker goes away!

Also if you use if txt.backcolor = vbred then else txt.backcolor = vbred instead of txt.backcolor = vbred you gone see a significant difference with the performance.

@@599CD I usually put 50 lines plus in the paint event. I am sure there is a difference in 2007 version of access that I use.
