Did you say "thick noodles", yes, please. There is definitely something endearing and heart warming about that miso ramen. The instant bowls are awesome; I can only imagine the intensity and satisfaction of the real deal. I'd try every one of those.

You've just given me 4 reasons to go back to Sapporo once Japan opens up again. We've had sensational sushi and genghis khan in Sapporo but I don't think we've had ramen 😥 I think I'd like to try number 3 and 4 the most. We had a miso ramen with the sardines once in Tokyo and it was surprisingly great. Not fishy at all, so I would love to try the one here in Sapporo. Great work Frank!
@5AMRamen2 жыл бұрын
Excellent choices...bowls 3 and 4 are a nice contrast too! Sounds like you took care of business otherwise though during your Sapporo trip - those two (sushi and mutton) are must eats there, as you know! Glad you enjoyed some sardine ramen while in Tokyo - you'd definitely enjoy bowl no. 4 in this video. Thank u for watching!

Professional ramen slurping skills, im jeleous! Also I do love your website, its full of content, it would be awesome if you could separate it by prefecture or region like north / south, or maybe style of ramen as well, or some map of japan that you click and it takes you to ramen places you have visited in that area. Though that will take quite the time and is a big project, im glad the search function works well. This video was awesome and the miso looked so fresh and warm.
@5AMRamen2 жыл бұрын
I have practice (the slurping)! Great - the search function was added quite recently to the website. I'm currently working on Ramen Guides and for the online portion, do want to make use of maps...it's a big project (as you highlighted) but should have more in the next few months! Always pushing out more blog posts than before now (plenty of backlog to work with 😃). Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the miso ramen video!

Loved your appearance with TabiEats recently, Frank! How could we possibly choose which bowl to order as they all have such ebullient descriptions? Will you have made the pilgrimage to Rishiri Ramen Miraku on this Hokkaido trip? Oh, also wonderful work with Critical Eats Japan with Paul and Aaron!

Hi I like your videos, I've been a subscriber 4 a while now. I just don't normally comment. But I Have a 2 questions 4 you. First...Is there any chance you could record more eating of ramen? 2nd..And talk a bit about the food while you are there with the food? I just wondering if it was possible. I Still enjoy It, i like seeing the food part more than anything, so I thought I would ask. Its ok if it's not possible. X
@5AMRamen2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, and commenting this time around! For some videos I'll contact the ramen shop beforehand and visit when they're closed...so that I have more time to sit down and provide commentary while eating the ramen. But unfortunately most of the time (like in this video) ramen shops are so busy (sometimes with big lines) that I'm scrambling to grab footage and then eat quickly so I'm not keeping others waiting. But I can try to leave the camera on for longer from now on (for question 1 / eating footage) 😊 This might just not show up in a video for a little bit, since I have so much video backlog!! Thanks so much for watching again and plz feel free to comment again anytime!

Definitely missed your video!! Love Saimi, that's the best I had in Sapporo in terms of Miso Ramen. Sumire isn't bad but lack the finesse of Saimi. Also love 175 Den but that's tantan men. With travel opening, would be good if can get into one of your ramen tours in Tokyo!! Thinking of coming around late Oct /Nov。

That's fantastic you were able to visit Saimi! Glad you loved it as much as I did too. It might indeed be a case of the student surpassing the master (Sumire). Later in the series I'm actually at 175 DENO for a limited time ramen they were serving! That would be great if you're able to join a ramen tour - please do reach out when those potential plans for the Fall become more concrete 👍

@5AMRamen2 жыл бұрын
Been a bit busy - but still gathering ramen content, as always! Thank you for watching. From my understanding, there's an Ainu soup called "Ohau" and some places add noodles, making it ramen-like. But calling it historical Ainu ramen might be a a stretch. UNLESS it does exist and I simply have to search Hokkaido for it! Maybe on the next trip 😊

Another great video, Frank! Question for you: I'm planning on visiting Japan next fall, mostly focusing on Fukuoka. I'm excited to go to the places you recommended in your Fukuoka series. I saw you had a copy of Ramen Walker magazine at the beginning of this video. I can read some Japanese, but how often is Ramen Walker published? Is there an English version? Also, regarding miso ramen from Hokkaido - I thought some of the characteristics of Hokkaido miso ramen were corn and butter. Is that not the case? Thank you!
@5AMRamen2 жыл бұрын
I filmed another Fukuoka ramen mini series last year - need to get that up too (still working through backlog)! Ramen Walker is published once a year - that was the Hokkaido 2021 version (there's a newer 2022 version that I don't have). They unfortunately don't have an English version. For reference, I'm currently working on area Ramen Guides in English - something similar to Ramen Walker! In the next video, I do feature a bowl with corn and butter toppings 😃. Some places do it, others don't bother.

@@5AMRamen Thank you so much for the response and info, Frank! So then Ramen Walker publishes annual regional magazines? That would make sense. I know how hard a publishing schedule can be.
