Little tip. Get a small carabiner, clip it to your load out at the shoulder. Clip your rifle to the carabiner. Place your magazine rested on your belt. Not in it. But rested. Keep your hand on your weapon grip. You are now considered "at the ready". Did my march this way as this is how we carried in theater. One cadet complained and the TAC officer explained to them i was "at the ready, meeting standard". Was nice when you get tired to allow the loadout kit to take some of the weight off.

When WO's have to do a 10K road march, it's all over. At least we have contractors maintaining the systems.
