Ran my First 5k that same day. I'm about 235 and been training for it for about 3 months having previously not run for many many years and being not so great to my body during that time. I finished the race barely under a 37 which was a whole 3 minutes faster than my goal of 40 minutes. Just found your channel and find it very motivational. Thank you!

The best races often come on the days we have lower expectations for ourselves. Both my half and marathon PR came on races when after my warm-up I thought that I "didn't have it today" and lowered my expectations for the race. Strange how that works sometimes. Anyway, awesome effort Mike, congrats on the PR!

Congrats on your PB! I’m part of the committee who planned the race. We really appreciate you running and sharing on your site! We are so glad you enjoyed the race and look forward to you and your daughter running next year. As you noticed, it’s a family event as much as a fun, fast paced competitive race. This shows how race environments create a different psychology: our training, usually pretty isolated, is suddenly shaped into a performance thats in relation to those around us. That can help or hurt us, and it looked like it helped you here. Congrats, Mike.

Right, that's all I kept thinking about was this dude holding a camera 🤳!! Just curious is this really necessary, do people tune in for that part of video. It doesn't do anything for me. Just have a few people film you start, middle and finish, no?
@WhatMatterstoMatt2 жыл бұрын
I like the camera I feel it can add to the video. I’m also curious about whether it would change the results or not. I’m actually out on my runs all the time with my GoPro shooting video for my runs and for the most part it seems fine in terms of the weight of holding it not being a problem, but more about not being quite as focused on the run and worrying about filming a little bit

Congrats man ! I’m always wondering watching your videos if you don’t think you’ll gain some precious seconds (especially during speedy races like a 5k) if you weren’t filming in the same time ? I do some filming myself with a stick on my Insta360 and i find it quite difficult during speed days to do so (as you need to be fully synchronized with your arms/legs to push hard and focus on the route), still grateful you do for all of us though :))

Must feel good getting a PB, I'm going to shoot for mine on Dec 10th. Did an unsolicited 5k on Oct 1st after not running literally at all for 3+ years (and that was another unsolicited 5k without running for nearly 5 years before that), ran a measly 32:XX, just ran 4.2 miles today, 8 weeks later, and got 27:03 on my 5k without REALLY trying...hoping for sub 25min on the 10th! What are group are you in? PS: you have undeniably the best running content on youtube, love all of your videos, especially the shoe reviews.

Looong term viewer here. Haven't commented in years (I don't think). Couple of comments - I would love to watch an unedited 18 min video of the race itself. Appreciate you'd need to edit to get shots of the front, back, shoes, etc as it's a 360° camera, but I just love to watch race footage and that short clip of your footfalls would be sick. Now, to contradict myself, it drives me mad that you are always carrying that camera for these PBs. As someone who has followed your journey for some many years, even before this blog was really about running, for you personally I would love to see what you can really do. Such a sick journey as over the course of the same six or seven years I also went from a little overweight to focusing on my running. But, during Covid and being stick in Hong Kong with no races and this no motivation I fell well off the wagon. Hoping to find my motivation again and your channel encouraged me the first time around and I hope to bring it back. Anyway, stream of consciousness over. Just wanted to say thanks for the joy, motivation, and amazing content.
