I came from a really awful background and an extremely turbulent and traumatic childhood. I see myself in Ravel Morrison. Chaos was his normality, his self confidence was there but out of necessity because inside he's hollow and doesn't truly value himself. It takes a lot to become a rounded person from that start. What you can see in Ravel as a grown man now though is that all the bravado and aggression has left him and he's a shy and timid person when out of his comfort zone - like in front of the media as he says here. One of the most fascinating interviews I've ever heard with a footballer. Off the back of this I hope clubs and the leagues look at themselves to see what more they can do to help younger players coming up. To think that Ravel was having genuine issues getting into training (as nobody at home that drives) and a big club like Manchester united can't help with that is disgusting. If a young player has the talent to be part of the youth setup of any big club, these clubs should be doing everything to ensure that those from a low income background don't have these struggles. As a united fan it doesn't sit right with me that on one hand we'll fly to London by private jet, or even fly new signings in by helicopter...but on the other hand they completely failed (and may well be continuing to fail) their young players who have genuine transport issues in terms of getting to training. Even turning up on his bike, I bet he was too tired to train! The leagues also really need to look into clubs/managers pressuring players into changing agents for their own financial gain. Maybe that's a harder one to resolve but it's not right. Rio it would be great to here other stories from footballers that have delt with similar issues to Ravel. Even those that may be less known. Only once more stories like this are told will things change to the benefit of the next generation of kids coming through different clubs.

It’s all Sams fault that he’s been given a chance at ELEVEN clubs in as many years and all of those clubs have deemed him not good enough to offer a proper contract to? Blaming others for Ravels inability to apply himself and give the commitment to his career that his talent deserves is pathetic. Do good, clean hearted kids have their contracts ripped up after three months, or is that Ado den Haag’s fault? From Wikipedia: In early 2011, Morrison received a 12-month referral order and was ordered to pay £1,445 in costs and compensation after admitting two counts of witness intimidation. After an assault charge was dropped when Morrison's girlfriend refused to testify, he was convicted of criminal damage for throwing her mobile phone out of a window and advised to undergo domestic violence counselling. In February 2012, Morrison was involved in controversy after posting a homophobic threat on Twitter, responding to criticism by calling another user a "faggot". He was charged under FA rule E3, which governs use of abusive and/or insulting words including reference to a person's sexual orientation, and accepted his guilt. He was fined £7,000. Morrison was remanded in custody on 31 July 2014 after being charged with two counts of common assault against a former girlfriend and her mother. He was freed on bail after three days in custody. In August 2014 he appeared at Manchester Crown Court entering not-guilty pleas to two counts of assault, one of assault causing actual bodily harm and one count of harassment. A provisional trial date was set for 26 January 2015. In November 2014 he was found not guilty of the harassment charge of threatening to throw acid in the face of his ex-girlfriend and have her killed after the Crown Prosecution Service withdrew the charge. On 15 January 2015, Morrison was cleared of all charges of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and her mother. Real nice kid!

I don't know man, self-doubt is so natural in so many people. He's a young kid at a team in its peak which is competing to be the best in the world. Of course he's going to doubt that the focus is on him. He said himself that none of the first team coaches really told him how good he was directly. All it would have taken is a few words from Mick Phelan or a few of the other coaches. Some affirmation and guidance early on could have drastically altered the course of his career.

He seems so shy - it must be a lack of belief in himself and the confidence to 'announce himself' in a team dressing room environment full of strong characters and ego's that held him back as much as his off the field lack of professionalism. I think it's also a lack of intelligence sadly, maybe a lack of support too from the Utd background staff who either weren't supportive enough or took too hard an old school disciplinary line on him?

His agent is the real talent behind this, not Ravel...How does he convince all these clubs to take a chance on him when all Morrison does is let his clubs down, time after time after time?! 11 clubs already says it all - he hasn’t got the maturity to be a top professional. Clearly doesn’t apply himself or take on any advice given to him - the guy doesn’t deserve to be making a living from football when he clearly doesn’t respect the talent he has.

Interesting interview, will listen to it all tonight, first thing I’ve noticed In the first 10 minutes is that he’s not that well spoken, to be honest, and a bit camera shy but interested to see what he has to say.. Very hard with pressure at a young ago and seen him go around at various clubs in recent years. This may sound harsh, but, he even admitted himself that he wasn’t (i can’t judge on now) the perfect “high performer” and although he was/is a great player he maybe didn’t put in the 100% work ethic and that is, why, some may say he’s a “Wasted Talent”. Such a shame, hope he can play a bit now, although it’d not the same at his age now. What I said may be harsh but my opinion. 👍
