I think in general why people think it's okay to do an "American accent" it's cause Americans are literally all the time butchering accents and think it's cool, I personally don't see what's wrong with doing an accent, it's just a fun little thing, just don't have to be done in a mean way I guess, it's all about context but these days people are just soo sensitive so don't bother really...
