This video is GREAT, thanks for crystal clear instructions and clear images of which brackets to cut for mounting and the bass blocker inline wiring! I installed Infinity Reference 3.5" and 6x9" (Also mfg by Harmon) in my 2018 4Runner as well as some foilbacked butyl rubber sound deadener on the door skins, and WOW!! the range of accurate and listenable speaker volumes is SO MUCH better than the weak factory speakers! OEM I had to turn up to about 30 to have a good enough volume to overcome road noise, but with the Infinity speakers you can listen as low as vol 10! I retained the factory head unit for now.

@@danyang3336 I installed them last week. In party mode half bass theyll start popping around 35 volume. I took off the bass blocker. Can get to around 50s then itll start popping again. In regular mode, they seem fine. I'm wandering if it because I have jbl 6x9s also.

Just did this same upgrade with JBL GX328 and the sound is almost as loud as factory speakers. I have tried many different speakers which most were 4 ohm and the sound was always way to low which threw off the sound stage. With these speakers its clearer and the sound is more balanced from front and back. With very limited options for this model this is a pretty simple replacement.

hey i have just installed 4 jbl speakers on the doors and the 2 tweeters, i get some distorion at like volume 55 and up, do you think if i do the base blockers on just the tweeters itll fix it?

I don’t have to turn the volume up to nearly as high to get proper bass or mids anymore with these installed. No pooping or distortion, bass blockers do help. I did try them without the bass blockers and it worked but I would still recommend using them. I also did go into the EQ and adjusted it a bit too.

I have just purchased new Rav4 in UK, when I opened the dashboard and try to remove the speaker, it is a two connection (two Harneses) speaker. Are there any after market to replace these? I have been to car audio shop, they won't recommend any.

I could not get the passenger side speaker in perfectly. I’ve got a 2018 sr5, the speaker sits on the air duct. I don’t really think it’s a problem that only one side is bolted in. No matter how I tweaked the bracket, it’s not fitting. It’s possible the Kicker KS are deeper than those JBLs but can’t Be much. One cool thing for others interested the Kicker KS 3.5s come with cross overs so no need to buy the bass blockers. And no need to solder anything. I used red wolf harness adapters

I used jbl 328s and had to chop the left part of the passenger bracket a lot with a dremel

@@tuckerhiggins4336 I'm running the JBL 8 channel dsp amp under driver seat and a little 8" sub under passenger seat. Its a pretty decent upgrade without anything visible. I returned the Kicker 3.5s and got JL audio. Better. If I did it again I would try component tweeters in the dash instead.

Nice!! For the dash, I did Pioneer 2-3/4 and they bolted right in. You going to do a 5 channel amp? I just upgraded all 8 of my speakers in my 16’ 4Runner and scored the JBL sub enclosure even though my system is the non JBL. It’ll bolt right in. My JL amp will run all four channels(8 speakers total) plus the sub.

@@PopcornbeetleBass blockers, no. They can handle 60 watts RMS each. I’m running my crossovers at 63hz. They sound great with my JBL club 6x9’s

Did any of you guys add a ohm resistor, the factory speakers are supposed to be 8ohms and those jbls are 4 ohms did you have any issues.

I did all 8 speakers in mine. 2 way Pioneer 2-3/4 in the dash JBL Club 6x9’s in the front doors. 2 way Kicker 6.5 in the rear passenger doors 4 way Sony 6.5 in hatch Sounds night and day difference. I’m doing a 5 channel amp soon. Will be powering all 8 speakers mentioned plus a JL Audio 8 inch sub. I got the factory sub enclosure now that 4Runners get when they have the JBL system. I’ve confirmed it’ll bolt right in.

I see two wires on the positive side. Did you cut both positive wires and sodder them both together to the bass blocker wire? Thanks!

The two wires should terminate into one wire, snip that one wire and then sodder that to the bass blocker

I just did this mod today. The speakers sound great but it robbed the 6x9 door speakers of power. I gained some mids and highs but lost all my bass from my 6x9 door speakers. I don't think it was a good trade. Might try the factory tweeter mod instead. Did u run into this issue?

Did you ever find a fix to this? Im thinking of doing the upgrade but i do have 2 10" subs in the back so wouldnt mind the bass loss to the doors. Is the sound overall clearer?

these speakers sound very loud clean and clear compared to the stock speakers. I kept the set up. I ended up adding more bass on the radio sound settings and it improved, i ended up being happy with these speakers. If you have subwoofers it shouldnt be an issue for you. @@TC-ye3tx

Hey man, I got some info for you on this. I’m in the same spot as you, and I think I figured it out. So for the front speakers, on each side as you know, the dash and 6x9 speakers are wired in parallel. A guy in a forum said that the factory wires the dash out of phase. I’m going to test this weekend, but if it’s out of phase, that will definitely be why things aren’t sounding right.

so confused about the harness??? 4 wires to one tweeter??? is it biamped?? but if so still makes no sense because you can biamp either low-mid or mid high aka 2 speakers but this in only one tweeter., but then that still further makes no sense because if it is biamped [which means 2 separate discrete individual amplifiers] you can not tie the 2 separate amps together even if thru a capacitor as doing so would blow the amp. . . . could you please explain whats going on here with the harness and the 4 wire set up

the feed [two wires] is coming from the speakers in the door. if you only use two wires the speakers in the door will not work. the bass blocker filters out the base and creates a clearer sound.

The front speakers are wired parallel. The signal is coming from the head unit to the dash speaker and then to the door speaker. This is the same for the left and right channel. If you disconnect the dash speaker the door speaker will not work but if you disconnect the door speaker the dash speaker will continue to work. The capacitor 270 microfares blocks the lows to the tiny 3.5” speaker.

Also, the OEM harness has four connectors and the OEM tweeter has four connectors so you just have a signal that is passing through on each plus and minus side back to the door speakers. The new harness is splits off from the four wires to two wires hence the new dash speaker only needs to wires.

I didn't like it at all... I got Kickers 3.5 and wired them on my component set up also by Kicker. Only tweeter worked... I had to rewire directly passing crossovers. To get mids out the speakers.. main reason why it doesn't sound right its because all sound now on the top and it's sounds like u have headphones... also u have no control over tweeters anymore. They way to loud and I can't even hear mids in my doors anymore...

@@danyang3336 I don't know anything about caps. I saw one guys used 47 for his polks 3.5 and pac has one for 3.5 speakers but 4ohms. Considering both those speakers are 4 ohms and the jbls are 3 ohms, I'm lost. I can't find any 270 for sale. I see many 47 on Amazon

@@damon323 I went with the NVX VAD11005 1100W Full Range Class D 5-Channel Car/Marine/Powersports Amplifier with Bass Remote. Needed something compact to fit under the passenger seat. Perfect fit.

@@peternepgen7168 Nice!! I’m doing a 5 channel JL Audio RD900/5. No line output converter. I’m just going straight to my high level inputs from my non JBL stock head unit. Wish me luck, hoping I won’t need a DSP or summing unit.
