I just love your context! You have such unique choices. It’s so refreshing! Looks like an awesome year. I also have a rising 5th grader I’m planning for right now.

What Facebook group are you referring to? It seems like there are not very many academically-focused (as opposed to unschooling-ish) homeschoolers who are secular-friendly, so I need to hang out there. 🙂Love your videos and curriculum choices!

I’ll have to rewatch & get back to you 😂

Ah, I was referring to the Memoria Press group! While it is not a secular group per se, there are many discussions about secular ways to use the curriculum and just questions in general that don’t have to do with Christianity, if that makes sense! m.facebook.com/groups/memoriapresshomeschool/?ref=share&mibextid=S66gvF

Moving beyond the page math: are you only doing certain topics for math, for example geometry and fractions?
@ddchomeschool2 ай бұрын
No, we are doing the full thing. We just finished 7-9 completely, and are now into 8-10. However, I do skip ahead to different levels as necessary for particular topics. So when we did the 7-9 fractions, I could see that my son was ready for more challenging work so I incorporated fractions from 8-10. I hope that makes sense!

I'm overwhelmed with Waldorf. I appreciate that you mentioned pretty much every Waldorf publishing or curricula I haven't seen at all. I have some reading to do. I a so interested in the combination of art and science. I'm thinking about doing Botany next year mid-way through 5th grade. Thanks and I love your videos. Very informational.

It is so overwhelming! And I am by no means an expert. I realized I forgot to mention that the reason I am gravitating towards Waldorf for my 2 younger students is that they’re very artistically inclined. They also love stories. I’m going to challenge myself to do more work to make this approach work for them because I think it’s such a great fit!

@@ddchomeschool I've gone as far as paying for the mandatory consultation to 'Live Education!' and am waiting for them to call. You can't order the books without the consult... which is slightly annoying. So I really appreciate that you gave me the names of other resources. Since I'm a master gardener and micro-farmer, I am fairly certain I can teach Botany but I really like the Waldorf style and would like to add that. I am already ear-marking Trostli's 'Physics the Waldorf Way'... My TBR is longer than my arm so maybe I will purchase and read that book in December... you know... in my downtime lol!

I’m super interested in LE too, but I don’t want the full grade levels so idk what to do! That’s so cool. Same! My TBR extends longer than my lifetime 😂

@@ddchomeschool that’s a thing I will ask when I chat with them. I don’t think we have to purchase the full grade levels but it all seems a bit shrouded in unnecessary mystery, almost to the point of being hokey… or elitist… I can’t tell which right now lol! I can see needing a consult if u r a co-op or charter but homeschool moms do what they want. I may do a video on the results.

I am, and I plan to film a video after this week with further clarification. I am tweaking things as I go, trying to figure out the right balance of everything.

How many days a week is the Latin scheduled?
@ddchomeschool5 ай бұрын
I looked at the second grade lesson plans, and it’s listed 5 days per week. However, you could easily consolidate that to 2-3 I think.
