Everyone keeps talking about SU size… in the 90s when SU was smaller and still kicking ass and taking names size never came into play but now that they are bigger with a fuller sound, why is size an issue? If you look at Texas Southern from the 90s versus SU size ratio is still probably the same, so what’s the problem? Both bands are larger now.

The Ocean was 96 instruments from 1992-1998 then 112 in 99. They were the smallest swac band back then.

@@sordidC correct! And during that time we (SU) would hover around 160-170 except for 98 we were around 140… During that time we went up against many bands larger than us and still handled business. So size wasn’t a factor.

If you are the home band, you better win. SU barely won this battle - if at all. That BigA band couldn't and can't nullify The Ocean. They've tried for years. They could completely fill up all the home-side stands with the band and 50-11 tubas and still barely win or lose altogether like '22. There's no more proving to do. Simmons and team proved themselves last year against Southern in Dallas. Then again this year at Pepsi NBOTB in Houston where The Ocean TIED with Southern. Nonetheless, I like Southern. Their antics help keep the SWAC fun and on its toes. And TXSU has been making 'em #seasick for years. 😂

@@Icecreamman007 I say TEXAS because I root for everything TEXAS. You are probably an alumni. I am not. I am just a fan who happen to play back in the day. So TXSU, Texas Southern, PV, PVA&M I could care less. I just want them to be great against the competition. Especially Southern. Because they have been the best since I was in school in 98. But that’s when PV actually had a band but at any rate. TXSU is my Favorite band I can see the potential greatness I just hope they reach out and grab it.

I wish people would stop the narrative that SU is perfect. Like cut the 💩. We hear just as many screw ups as any other band every week. Most just choose not to speak on it but be quick to point it out in every other band and then turn around and compare them to SU. It’s madness and creates a false narrative. TxSU is coming along, but the execution lacks for sure. But man the song selections and arrangements are so creative. Just wish they executed and focused on the fundamentals more. That’ll carry them over the top. I totally agree with what you said. To me, they didn’t groove that Ready or Not arrangement how I expected it to be. And percussion was nonexistent on it completely. They’re improving! Not quite a heavyweight yet though.
