Was I the only one shouting, "Air down!!!" at the screen?🤣👍

I did a very nice video and showed great finesse in in getting your truck over the hill with zero abuse, that probably impressed me the most. The 939 series is a truly great running truck and back in the day they could be had extremely cheap. I see yous is an A2, you have CTIS and the turbocharged motor? Both of mine are the A1 with the 855 series naturally aspirated 250 HP. Keep up the very well done videos and keep treating your equipment like YOU own it!!

Karl K thanks. I have upgraded to the 53" tires and Detroit locker in the front with custom locking hubs. Need to take it back down here should go right up it with the locker

It's an A2,you can always tell when looking at the front wheels because they have the guards that seperate the valves.The A2's all had Cummins 6CT's and CTIS which wasn't helpful in the long run,too many problems at first.

Just a single ARB air locker in the front axle would do wonders for these rigs and the 2.5 ton trucks

The main problem in doing so is that it will become diffcult to corner turns,even at slow speeds,unless someone could figure out how to make a selective set of lockers for both the front and rear. Front lockers were a testing ordeal in the Navy Seabees and Marine Corps,but the results didn't really work out as it seems.

@@Syriondeathvow The military didn't officially use air activated lockers on their trucks.That was a testbed thing that occured for some of the M900 series in the Navy Seabees and Marine Corps by AM General and the lockers were made by Rockwell.Oshkosh and Kovatch tried it out themselves too.

@@Syriondeathvow Reread my comment before you delete yours... I've helpfully given you all and much the information you need to know about these trucks...First and foremost,I'm not going to argue and have to scroll through a sharade of ramble.

Why not air down more?

It's hard to offroad a tractor. They have no weight over the rear axles. I think the driver did OK, considering.

The Stewart trucks are way better than these ones. They got better approach angles and they got lockers
@crushedcranium6 жыл бұрын
these trucks need lockers bad lol
@Slim_Slid4 жыл бұрын
All of them should have lockers in the rear axles.They all had open front axles.Some specific variants from the Marine Corps and Navy Seabees did actually come with locking front axles as testbed units only.

@@Slim_Slid if it had lockers then the tires on a shared axle wouldn't be spinning at different speeds. Also "locker" suggests that it is selectable and maintains the differential function when not engaged. You seem to be talking about a "spool", which would delete the spider gears rendering it useless for most applications.
@Slim_Slid4 жыл бұрын
@@crushedcranium They actually do have lockers in the rear...They aren't open differential.I've owned a few old five ton trucks personally.The USMC at one point during the Gulf War/Desert Storm time even had some M939 series trucks equipped with air activated lockers,but were only demonstrators. Then Oshkosh and Kovatch even made firetrucks (Approximately 250) that had air lockers as well that were made by Rockwell,the same company that builds the axles for the majority of trucks.

@@Slim_Slid then why are the rear tires on this truck not locked? They are clearly slipping independent of one another. I'm not trying to be an ass, but the little I do know about these trucks and what you're saying is contradictory. I've operated/worked on 2 different 5 tonners, neither had locking diffs and one of them couldn't even be locked into 6x6, the transfer case was automatic, It was essentially awd.
@Slim_Slid4 жыл бұрын
@@crushedcranium 1.AWD is really not the same as 6×6... 2.What five ton trucks specifically? 3.If it couldn't be locked in either 6L or 6H then something is wrong with the transfer case...The transfer cases on older military trucks such as the deuce and a halfs and five ton trucks weren't as reliable (Not air assisted). 4.Most 6×6 trucks are suppose to have lockers in the two rear axles,otherwise it's open and won't spin simultanously. In their configuration,they're technically 4×6 when unlocked/open.
