The writers should have let Maddie and David keep the baby and stay together. They'd still disagree and banter. The show would have lasted longer, or at least the viewers would have been satisfied. So what if the actors hated each other at the time.

He had made Die Hard and she had made Chances are. They both had bigger and better things in mind. Plus she had had twins and didn't want the burden of 14hr days making Moonlighting.

After watching this it's hard to understand why David and Maddie didn't end up together. It's so easy to see they were made for each other.

Absolutely! And then seeing how it all worked out at the end of 'Between a Yuk and a Hard Place' only to be completely dissolved and gone in the next episode, that has always baffled and saddened me. 😔 You can truly see here the deep love they have for each other. 🥰

So true! David is a good man who’s supporting Maddie and saying kind things in an awful situation. Such a sad episode though. 😢

The writers really screwed up bigtime in season 5. They have this kind of moving scene between these two and then she goes back to saying to her cousin he's not responsible and not to be trusted when they had gotten pass that. They shouldn't have killed the baby as THAT would have been a reason people would have tuned in again. We wanted these two to have their happy ending but the writers had long since not given a damn. I just try to think they got back together and have a kid.

They really don’t sell a loss of a baby too well here

Exactly why a miscarriage had no business featuring in a slapstick comedy. It’s like showing Lucy and Ricky mourning a baby. Nobody wants to watch that. If they didn’t want a baby in the show they shouldn’t have written in the pregnancy in the first place and had Maddie in an amnesiac coma or something while Cybill took time off. That’s no more outlandish than some of the other stuff they did.
