6/27/24 Captiva Ospreys: Darling returns to the nest after fledging, but is not welcomed home.

Darling fledged yesterday evening, and did not return to the nest. This morning, Darling flew back to the nest for the first time, and made a good landing. Unfortunately, Darling's older sibling, Ding, no longer wants to share the nest with him. Ding acted very aggressively toward Darling for nearly half an hour, eventually forcing him off the nest. This video only shows a portion of that time.
Ding is territorial, and now only sees Darling as competition for food that a parent may bring to the nest, and Ding wants to eliminate her competition. This is an unfortunate, but certainly not unprecedented turn of events.
We were very glad to see Darling this morning. Darling's dad will most likely bring fish to him off the nest.
