Hey Austin, would love to see more testing with the 6.8 in other powders. I think you should be able to get 3150fps out of it in the 155 lrx.

Thanks for this, R. Dubb. Gonna try that lighter Barnes instead of the 170/75 weight in my 6.8 work up. 👍🏿

@ReloadingWeatherby I thought the same thing about MagPro. It's lights out in my 270 WSM, not so in my 6.8 Western. IMR-7828 and Retumbo are much better selections. Deadly accurate with screaming velocities using the 155 grain Barnes.

I’ve been able to safely reach well over 3000 fps with the 155 lrx however my gun absolutely hates them unfortunately.. been through many loads, powders etc and can’t get any kind of consistency. Gun shoots sub moa with everything else though so I guess I’ll survive lol
@randalljeffs72725 ай бұрын
I love the 300 WSM. And I like Barnes bullets. For some reason I’ve never been able to get my 300 WSM to shoot the 175LRX well. Best I’ve been able to manage is 1.5 moa. And that’s with extensive load development. Same rifle shoots the 175SMKs at 0.5 moa, so it’s not the rifle.

There's something about that Superformance powder that's just not right. I'm currently trying it in 3 different rifles and calibers. By far my best results with it are in a 6.5 Creedmoor. It gets crazy velocity with the Superformance powder and 140 graiin Accubonds along with sub half moa groups. It also gets wicked velocity in the 7mm08 with 160 grain Accubonds but the accuracy has been horrible so far, but I have a few more charge weights to try in it so not done yet. And finally it gets well over 2900 fps with 180 grain Accubonds in the 30-06 but so so accuracy but not done with that one either. Had you tried H4831sc in the 300WSM I am very confident the accuracy would have been better. Maybe not the velocity you would want, but surely better groups. But the velocity is so much higher with Superformance that it's worth the effort trying to get it to shoot. I'm finding that milder primers with higher powder charge weights is giving me my best results.
@ArpexOfficial5 ай бұрын
I don’t use superformance and US869 for being temperature sensitive lol
@8MM.PRC.HUNTER5 ай бұрын
@@ArpexOfficial I prefer temp stable powders too but I have had excellent accuracy with a variety of spherical powders in the past - often better than I got with Hodgdon"s extreme line. But I've had to do more work getting good accuracy with Superformance than any other powder I've used. Contrary to other spherical powders, with Superformance I have found better accuracy with the milder primers than with the hotter ones. Magnum primers were a complete disaster, and my beloved WLR's didn't do well either.

Not to knock the 300WSM, BUT...why not compare the 270 WSM to the 6.8 ? The 270 WSM is a much closer rival. and just a bit faster and elder twin to the 6.8. I think Browning and WW just copied the 270 WSM for, who knows why.
