I am often silenced and uncomfortable when I read many comments made by some Chinese citizens about actors. Cruel words are just as abusive as physical abuse, and it’s harmful to anyone who reads them, triple for actors. Many actors commit suicide because they cannot live under such pressure to be perfect. It seems other asian countries like South Korea are just as bad. We all need to learn to respect and accept each other, what we say about someone else is what we really see in ourselves.

I totally agree with Liu Yuning. So what if he is not the ideal of Chinese male handsomeness: he's got an aura and unmistakable talent that still make him attractive. And I just love his music and humor in live streams or variety shows too. In fact even the current heartthrob Chen Zheyuan did look rather ordinary and "ugly duckling" until he morphed into what he's become, through work and persistence, whatever interviewers thought he said. In any country, there are talented people who totally overcome the difficulty of not conforming to local "beauty standards", being too pale or too colored, too tall (and hunched) or too short, too wide eyed or thin lipped.... Even genuinely handicapped and scarred or tattooed people. Talent trumps it all and the root of it comes from the confidence in oneself. I like the Z.Tao song T.A.O. that starts with the affirmation of values like that: " I believe in my own persistence, I believe in my choices, I understand the so called freedom .... I trust in no fate so I will prove [my worth] by myself " (我相信我的执着，我相信我的选择...懂得了所谓自由...因为不信注定我会让自己证明的.) Some of his lyrics are very meaningful and many find him beautiful, although he too does not fit all the agreed criteria. Of course, he's got "swag" --- doesn't hurt. I am always saddened by the vitriolic comments of netizens in China. They are abhorrent. I don't know. Granted I've only seen dozens and not hundreds of Chinese dramas, I think most of them (main characters) are populated by good-looking actors/actresses. As in other countries, when compared to the majority population, these young actors are very good looking. Most entertainers need to look good, and if not, great acting skills (many are blessed with both). Perhaps it's my western standards but my idea of beauty seems different from these nitizens. I'm more concerned about the frequent and casual acceptance of voice dubbing.
