I grew up in Summit, NJ. It is an amazing town with great schools, a nice community pool, a great downtown, and even a municipal par-3 golf course that's great for a quick game or to learn golf. It's also only 45 minutes from Penn Station, NY. The downside is it's a stuffy atmosphere with all the serious money in Summit.

I also live in Summit. The city would be even better if it had a university. I also would like a downtown supermarket but the Shoprite in Springfield isn't too far away. A big plus is fast highway access -- whether you go into the city (78 east) or west (24 west or 78 west) it's highly convenient. The train commute to Manhattan's Penn Station is about 45 minutes for the express trains. Summit has the Visual Arts Center. Overlook Hospital is close. Ditto, Short Hills Mall. There is an arboretum as well. Overall, New Jersey has a bunch of great towns that are close to Manhattan, and that have great schools and parks and restaurants and sport fields. I would add these towns to your list: Millburn, Berkeley Heights, New Providence, Chatham, Morristown, Livingston. Taxes are high but we get what we pay for -- great schools, great services.

@@Jeff-Suburbs-of-NYC there are a bunch of excellent options for dining in Summit. La Pastaria, The Office, Piattino, Fiorino, the Summit Greek Grill, Negeen Persian Grill, and Blossom Asian Bistro all have fine food and ambiance. Man they aren’t telling you about The best place which is going to get a train station close by in Andover 2027 .. or allamuchy and Green township .. there’s a train close in Hackettstown real nice farms and will eventuslll be overrun with traffic when you move here
@71kevman
@71kevman 4 ай бұрын
Where is the train station supposed to be built in Andover? I hope this is false. The best parts of NJ are the parts that don't have mass transit. Sussex county needs more people like it needs a hole in the head. It needs less people but the city dwellers are moving out there in droves. City folks and "others" who aren't from any city within the USA are filling up all of the rental properties already. Not as if NJ doesn't already suck in general. It does. It's the most densely populated state and is only slightly larger than an armpit. Now the idiots who keep voting for horrible local and state officials want to do the same to the last vestiges of rural land they can find. If it's up to "the majority" they won't stop until they run all of the people who prefer rural life, out of the state all together. Over the Delaware they have already destroyed Stroudsburg and the surrounding region as they flee the horrible policies and high crime rates of urban NJ and NY. Freaking great.
@71kevman
@71kevman 4 ай бұрын
From that rag The Herald as of Jan 26, 2024 : "An Amtrak stop in Andover has been dismissed by the Federal Railroad Administration, according to a letter sent to Amtrak's chief executive officer from Congressman Josh Gottheimer." Good. Here's hoping it never gets built. BTW the only reason Gottheimer is the rep for this area, the 5th district, is because his district also includes Northern Bergen county. Much more highly populated and blue than Sussex which normally votes in opposition to the rest of Blue Jersey. As a matter of fact, if you look at election results by county you will see the blue areas hugging the I-95 corridor and those people are moving out to take over the rest of the state.

Thanks for watching and commenting! I haven't been to Norwood. I am sure it is a great place. The towns I covered in this video were chosen mostly because of their historic downtown's and direct train stations to the city. If you don't need to commute to the city or have the ability to drive that can open up a lot of options to. Of course this is just a small selection, lots of great places out there.
