Metal zone in the fx loop is a whole different animal. Rat is probably the all around best. Muff is more fuzz but great through the right amp!

My favourite, the Marshall Guv'nor! Used as distortion booster also works awesome! (Gain 5, vol 10) Edit: with the MKI version you could even use the the third jack "loop" (insert) to add a noise gate that works only with the effect enabled, awesome for boosting!

DS-1 and Big Muff sounded awesome! I usually run my DS-1 with the tone at 1:00 and the distortion at 4:00, level all the way up because I have one of the newer Ds-1 pedals and it tends to be quiet.

Good and useful comparison. But to make universally useful you need to add a Strat/Tele to the mix. A pedal that sounds great with humbuckers might sound terrible with single coils and vice versa.

You managed to make them all sound pretty good. Nice work in a real band context, the Gov'nor would prob be the smartest choice, or a rat. I wish they had brought out a rat with bass, mid and treble control. It would of been the best dist ever made.
