6 Differences Between Base Game and Growing Together Infants in the Sims 4

Just to be clear, I never said I wanted realistic infants in the Sims 4. Some people may want complete realism but that's not my main focus with the game. I want a fun and interesting game that lets me tell stories that are inclusive of lots of different types of people

lol no. it's a great deal for PLAYERS THAT PLAY THE SIMS SO FAST. Like really. the reason why sims 4 boring BECAUSE THOSE PLAYERS PLAY IT QUICK. With cheats, with normal-short lifespan, with the neighborhood stories turn off.

Totally agree! The realism seen by parents ( mother of 3 ) is uncanny! My youngest used to have to be put to sleep in my arms before I could even think of putting her in her crib ( she outgrew this stage now that she's 8 months ) and I laughed a bit that some infants have these quirks! Even the tummy time is realistic 😂

I don't have kids but I assume in real life you can do at least something even with the kid. You can use a sling or something and still wash dishes or do something on your computer, or watch tv, but in the game parent is stuck with a kid and can't do much.

@Tetiana Arnautova ironically you can't really. You can walk, but if your baby wants to sleep, the sling isn't going to be what he/she wants to sleep in because it isn't comfortable. Cooking is hard with a baby sling on because they're in the way in the front ( and back sling is only used with older childer like 12 months and up ) and you get worried of burning them... you can fold laundry? But the slings are better for walks. So still legit I.M.O

@@teebee4749 most annoying thing is, That MCCC is already updated to growing together but you cant Change the life span of infants (not included) in normal gameplays 5 days r too short and in long 20 days r way too much :( And Yea kid to young adult (or senior) feels like a loop cut they do all Time all ages the same. Sometimes the toddlers too cuz u dont need an adult 90% of the Time 😂

The infants are based off of real world infants. So it makes sense that you can’t put an infant in a high chair until it’s able to sit itself up. The infant hates tummy time at because in the real world a lot of infants hate tummy time initially (it’s hard at first). I think the point of the finger foods is because they’re using dexterity(?) to feed themselves. While the other options to parents are feeding them. They do eventually stop crying at tummy time and when sleeping. Also the mobile and sooth to sleep option helped my wiggly sims fall asleep. I know I plan to age my sims to toddlers immediately (I will have a cake waiting for them once i age them up from The bassinet). But challenging babies is what most of the sims community wanted and I think the sims team delivered. 💃🏽

That's fair! Honestly I thought most people just wanted their babies to be able to move around not so much a challenge, but I know people have different wants and ways of playing the game. And some people want lots of realism! In which case growing together definitely seems to deliver that

I also appreciate that a lot of people who don't have kids yet have been shocked by realising this is the reality of parenting and it's made them sit back and really reflect on if they want kids and that IS going to prevent a lot of kids being raised by parents who weren't prepared for the reality of parenting. It's preventing traumatised kids growing up into traumatised adults and I'm here for that as a traumatised adult. The message this update gives you is "You might wanna be REALLY sure you're ready for this before you make a baby" 😂

I feel like the food preferences were realistic for growing together. I hate yogurt but I do love eating my daughters yogurt melts. Both of my kids hated tummy time and cried the whole time IRL. So that’s also realistic for me, but why have food preferences if they don’t matter? The only point in having them try food is just for the 1 milestone. After that it literally doesn’t do anything for the game. Such a missed opportunity.

@@SilverShroudRadio This is where I start to feel like they should have made the compatibility mechanics base game, and made the infant life stage only a part of Growing Together. It would give people an option about if they even had the infant stage, but compatibility feels much more fundamental. On top of that, they could have linked expanding the compatibility options further - I've only been playing Sims 4 since the base game became free, and I haven't got an expansion yet (looking at seasons, Parenthood and maybe Outdoor retreat and High School years before I even consider Growing Together), but to my mind it would be cool if say you could buy Dine Out and it would add food tastes compatibility. The supernatural packs added the occults as likes and dislikes. Maybe Get Famous or Get Famous added likes and dislikes about crowded places, the bookworm trait added likes and dislikes about book genres...

Better babies were such a big request especially when the game first game out and I feel like them putting the most important stuff behind a paywall was a bad choice. @@terryberry38 You have to paywall at least some of it to cover the costs of development. If you put the milestones out for the infants, they then have to follow for all stages which is a huge amount of the pack. Cynically, given how many issues the memory system caused in TS3, I wonder if they are going to see what starts to break as Growing Together players start to get deep in to legacies - if that was all players they'd have a much bigger problem on their hands. Now, they have a limited set in a sort of public beta. The bigger problem for me though is that the Infants lean on previous packs like Parenthood. With that you are at least building the parenting skill interacting with the infants, without it, they feel like busywork in the base game

Crying so *intensely* should be tied to infants traits imo. The crying is realistic to an extent. I know infants that never cry. Seriously in an year I’ve seen her cry twice as it was due to teething.

Honestly the milestones and how to get there and how long it takes feels fairly realistic (I'm a mom of 3 lol) same with the foods. They could hate yogurt but love the melts cuz they are different textures and then as toddlers I've had a toddler eat EVERYTHING even though he was picky with baby foods then I've had a couple who live off of Mac and cheese and nuggets for like 2 years 😂. They also truly do cry and whine a bunch with tummy time (most of them) and tummy time is much more effective if you are involved with your baby to show them what the goals are. I personally think it was amazing how accurate a lot of these things were

Me personally: i love the infants in the expansion. I love seeing the stages they go through and having twins is way more of a challenge but also you get to see how different they can be from each other even when you do the same things to both

Haven’t played the pack yet but from the description it sounds very accurate. Infants and toddlers will change their food preferences sometimes from one day to another. As others have said tummy time does take a lot of persistence and some babies really don’t enjoy it at all.

it doesn't take a while to get some milestones especially if you use play mat. honestly i really like you can actually see your kid progressing and it really feels like the kid is growing. also it depends which trait your infant has, yes they will cry during tummy time but my infant had a calm trait and she was crying just time to time. the growing together pack add some more realism to the game especially if you play with families and generations 🌸

I actually really like the growth stages of infants in the expansion pack. I DO however think the speed at which they learn things needs to be increased. By the time I can enjoy my infant crawling and playing, they grow up in 1 day…

My problem with infants is that they don't have anything with parenthood. So if a new player decides to start playing the game. They going to be confused on why they going to have to buy two packs to get parenting things for all life stages. I think base game infants are fine. Some people are not family players and don't want to do much work for infants. For example, I don't want all that extra work to take care of an infant. I barely like toddlers.

I've played with four infants so far, one during base game and the other three with Growing Together. I kinda had more fun with GT infants rather than base game, i enjoy the challenge of trying to develop as many milestones and also trying out all the food they can even though I'm pretty sure it's impossible to do it all on any lifespan besides long or turning aging off. Although i was really hoping to get more out of Infants the more milestones and better upbringing they have, something to make the rest of their lives better like when you get all toddler skills up enough they can increase skill gains for the rest of their life, something like that. Instead all they get is a moodlet buff every now and then. I like infants, both base game and GT, but i was kinda expecting a bit more overall

Honestly, I thought I was going to like the pack, but the more I see about just how long it takes the infants to reach the milestones that allow them to do anything and the various bugs with some of the other elements… I’m not so sure. Base game infants are cute! Growing Together infants revert to being objects. 🤔 Also still completely confused by the furor over changing tables. It’s a pack feature. We’ve known that, they’ve said it from the beginning! And how can people complain for years “you gave me this thing for new gameplay in this pack but it doesn’t go with anything so how can I use it?” But then be mad when the Sims team finally listens and makes the gameplay item that goes in infant’s rooms to match base game infant furniture sets? And why are changing tables so very important anyway? Does it really change things so much? You can still change diapers just fine without them.

Infant skills don't exist because infant milestones cover the same progression aspect but in a more variable nuanced way. But I do like being able to just... do things, right away... with just the base game

I have the pack and honestly, a lot of the content should've been base game. They literally pay-walled the majority of the infant game-play and items to fill out a pack that otherwise wouldn't be a pack of that price tier. Without it, infants feel incomplete and I lost interest quickly. Not to mention the fact they didn't even give us a crib for a lot of the pack-specific toddler beds like the Werewolves one

Tummy time gives me headaches, before growing together my infant did all fine like you mentioned, but after that tummy time really is really getting on my nerves, i get what you're feeling, also they can get their fun stat up real quick when they watch at objects, paintings works really well. i really enjoy the milestones the infants have to go through in order to do things like crawling. in my game, tummy time isn't much of a hassle, i just do it with them for an hour or two in between naps. and they also gain milestones from looking at toys & playing with toys on the playmat.

The code for changing tables are actually in the base game, so there are some cc that are base game compatible to work around that paywall, I think the best I've seen that is maxis match is called boho baby or something like that. I think it's incredibly cashgrabby of EA to make the changing table for base game but putting a paywall on them with the expansion pack

Realism yes. However EA has a tendency of overdoing it. The sims doesn't do well with realism. Pets are one example. They are pretty realistic but a sim day is too short and the animations takes too long. We need a good balance.

Lmbo, these growing together infants sound incredibly realistic. My babygirl is 15 weeks today and yes, she hates tummy time and cries the whole time, can't sit or hold her head up and we need to tend to her 24/7. The foods thing made me laugh too. Yes some babies dislike yogurt but will like yogurt melts. Will have certain food preferences and when they get older it changes and has no impact on their lives. Very, very realistic.

Bro I made the mistake of starting the 100 baby challenge after getting the growing together pack and had twins and another baby right after and had three infants at the same time💀 it’s incredibly difficult to take care of all of them AND the mom sim. I just started playing the expansion today and my sim had two babies close enough for them to infants at the same time for a while. Oh my god. I swear no one's getting any actual sleep in that house, and they're always fun deprived lol. Just making sure everyone's fed all the time is such a hassle It's worth mentioning I always play with mods and cheats to make the gameplay easier and quicker, but I decided to avoid it for this save. This feels like an actual challenge. Also, my sim just found out they're pregnant again so oh boy

It took me about ten minutes real time of tummy time to realize that they were meant to cry the whole time. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with the infant 😅 Also, the back carriers irritate me because in my opinion you should also be able to put a toddler in one.

Toddlers absolutely need back carriers. Having had children in real life, back carrying a toddler makes life SO much easier, especially when they're clingy! Also it bothers me that there isn't an option to use a front carrier and that it's not autonomous. If a Sim is holding a baby and you direct them to do something, they should automatically put the baby into it if they can use one during that thing. Two hands are necessary! Especially using the toilet with an infant!

I think milestones are supposed to kind of be like skills. But it’s a weird decision to me to call them something else even though they basically work like skills! Anyway thanks for the information! I already got Growing Together because I won it in a contest, but I do wish you could toggle the milestones off and on so you don’t have to all that tummy time with every single Sims baby! I guess my Sims game just got a lot harder!! 😂

Infants can do tummy time by themselves after they learn I think it was both roll over to back and stomach, but I'm not completely sure if it's just h those two or one other. I usually have Infants do tummy time by themselves after they can

Yeah I think they have to learn to roll over to their back and roll over to their stomach first but it still takes a really long time in my opinion. And I don't think they can learn to sit up or stand on their own? Which I think is weird because when they do learn to stand it's pulling to stand on a couch

My game lets me do other things while using the baby carrier. As long as it's a standing or walking activity. Cleaning up. Walking around etc. But if I go sit down , they immediately put baby on the floor

So idk what's basegame and what's not. My sim does put the baby down out the carrier a lot tho. I just put them back and then do another task. I think if you cant do it during painting , maybe its because it's a focus task. And it's not like an automated task they can stop themselves.

I was thinking about getting this for the cas items as base game infant cas sucks but my laptop is garbage so I can’t get cc. Think I’m going to hold off until there is a sale on both it and the parent hood pack and just get both of them. Only reason I don’t have parenthood is having to be responsible for how the kids grow up

Yeah I don't think I'd get it for the cas unless it's on sale. Ive made infants with base game and the pack and I dont really think there's a huge difference. If you do decide you want parenthood for other reasons there's honestly not much risk of them getting a bad trait accidentally. Things stay pretty neutral unless you try to get a certain trait, aside from responsibility. It's kind of frustrating actually haha

To be honest I don't understand why everyone is gushing about the growing together pack, I initially wanted it cos I had heard it was supposed to improve family gameplay but everything in this pack genuinely seems like it makes the game worse rather than better, it is the only pack that I genuinely now want to avoid like the plague! It's a shame cos I like some of the items and CAS stuff and the new world looks decent and some gameplay features are okay but most of the new gameplay features look like more a hindrance than a help and yeah the infants especially seem so much worse with this pack than without it! I want to see my cute infants crawling around and sitting at the high chair not just lying lumps on the floor! Yeah okay having them go through milestones is technically more "realistic" but given that there's still a time limit to how long they'll stay infants (if you have aging on) then you could literally never do tummy time with your infants, have them just stay on the floor and then eventually they'll just age up into a toddler anyway that can already walk around! I personally think the experience of having infants is actually improved by not having this pack but I am someone that really isn't bothered about sims being realistic personally

Child Whisper (Teens and above) Newborns, Infants, Toddlers, Children, and Teens needs are met more often while under your care and you understand them in a way that it's easier to resolve the problems Parental Warmth (Young Adults and above) When doing social interactions with any related Sim by law or blood, the child Sim gain a +3 positive moodlet for 6 hours and apologies from either side can remove any bitter sentiment between Sims. Argumentive You lash out at others more often and don't often listen to reason. When interacting with a Sim by mean interactions or a Sim starts a mean conversation. The Sim will gain +5 Anger moodlet and will automatically gain the fight option or Heated Debate Argument (When having University Living, it increases success rates of winning Arguments by 2x overwise Logic will take place with base game) Glass Child (New Bonus Trait) You were born to not be recognized by anyone, always overshadowed by siblings or family. Gain +3 sad moodlet when Parent is interacting with a siblings or ignores child's existence. Sad moodlet stacks, full maximum stacks of sadness will cause child to runaway for a few days to a distant relatives house and come back with a sadden sentiment about family not caring about them. (You can always search for the child that ran away, if this happens repeatedly child will be taken away and forever lives at distant relative house) These Sims have hard time dealing with kids when an adult but have easy time with Gloomy or Socially Akward children. The Beloved One (New Bonus Trait) You're loved by everyone including your family, every Sim close to you gain an additional +2 posative moodlet to any emotion their feeling towards. Long term positive sentiments will last 2x longer and the effects are 2x greater. You gain a significant relationship bonus in Friendly, Funny, and Flirty. Outcast You chose the path of solitude enjoying the moments of peace and quiet. You gain a +5 positive moodlet when alone and far from other Sims. You gain a slight skill gain, work performance, and crafting buff while living alone or not near any Sim. Golden Child (New Bonus Trait) After gaining perfect grades, relationships, and above average skills. You gain a base increase to all skills by 3 levels and start off on a good note to all Sims you meet. You gain skills, work performance, and crafting much faster than other Sims. But you are hated by your siblings (mostly with those that have Glass Child Trait) (New Neighborhood traits) Adding Neighborhood Traits instead of slapping Good Grades, Water well, or Geothermal Traits on house lots can be pretty boring with just 3 open Traits. But now the Neighborhood Traits can now let you put in more Passive Traits like Good School, Good Soil, Natural Lighting, Breezy, etc. With a new base game Crime system, each Neighborhood has their own unique Passive bonuses or Negatives. This will add back the House Invasion again with this feature! Crime can move around depending on the news channel, mail, or phone. Having get to work can also change the crime wait more significantly as well, and being a cop or criminal can increase or reduce this. But also risk getting robbed or arrested by your job. Safe/Gated Neighborhood Children, Adults, and Elders gain a +5 positive moodlet and gain skills 1.5x faster while in this neighborhood. These Sims also do better in their work and craft here. House rent is increased due to cops being payed more to keep community safer (Crime rates are significantly reduced in these neighborhoods) Average Neighborhood It's just perfect nothing bad about living in a normal place. (Crime rates are average) Unsafe Neighborhood Sims do horribly in these neighborhoods, Skill gain is 1.5x slower, and working conditions is uncertain. Sims have a +5 negative moodlet. House rent is reduce in these Neighborhoods, cops arrive much slower (Crime rates are higher in this vicinity) New Job Daycare Assistant > Daycare Manager (Part time job) Wanna help take care, love being around children? Will apply to Sunshine Care and Soul, the most friendliest place on earth. Paywage: 15/hr Time: 8am-3pm Pre-school Assistant > Pre-School Teacher Let's help the little ones learn their ABCs and help sing their way to become a happy go time child! Pay wage: 15/hr Time: 8am to 3pm (New Lot trait) Family Legacy Sims that has generations to come has a higher chance of being successful in this household. Gain slight skill gain and have a chance to get promoted in a career much easier. Sims gain a +2 positive moodlet Shattered Plasmaline Sims in this household rejects the ideal legacy their parents wish upon them. These Sims become tense when talking about adding new addition to the family and reject any way of having kids. Sims gain a +2 Negatives Moodlet when having or being near children.

No baby likes tummy time so I think its funny how realistic it is. :P my youngest is 8 months and she still doesn't like playing on her belly that much! So I think the sims did it really well. Even the addition of finger foods, it may not do much?, but it adds to the realism and I can guarantee if they didn't add it some modder would have complaining they should have added it. 😂

My littlest nephew HATES tummy time. My mom and I did it with him the other day and he rolled over once and then kept trying to roll over but quickly started screaming. I told her to keep him on there another minute because he was so close and doing great and she said okay, but then he got super mad and it took her 5 minutes to calm him down. Whoops. Nobody seems to be talking about how utterly ridiculous it is that sims almost cannot do anything while using the baby carrier. Isn't the whole point of a baby carrier to free the hands while still keeping the baby close, so it's possible to multitask and do things while a baby who maybe is very attached to their parent just sleeps in the carrier? I can't believe they left the carrier to work like that.

I just want my infants to get all their milestones before becoming toddlers !! But no ! My sim insists on giving the infant to their spouse, their spouse putting the child in the crib, picking up the infant, putting it on the floor and THEN they can do tummy time.

Idk if anyone else has this glitch, but I'm currently suffering rn lol. I have a generations family and my Sim gave birth to twins (start of Gen 3). She also has a little sister who's a teen who lives with her and her wife cause Gen 1 parents are dead. The teen is super into fitness but it hasn't been letting me use the fitness machines cause it says she's pregnant, which shes definitely not. She's a teen and I don't have any mods and it's not giving me any indication she's pregnant. Like no moodlet, no baby bump, nothing. But then she randomly woke up and gave birth to twins one night. I was shocked. So now I'm dealing with 4 infants :,). Weirdest glitch ever

Infants *can* do tummy time by themselves (or maybe by a certain point?). You can click on them to do tummy time or get a toy, for example. Other than that...I just want to stab my eyes with a fork. I will never do babies again. The parents had to quit their jobs. The freelancing doesn't work out because the baby requires so much attention. The parents just talk to each other or play video games. (Maybe I have to keep clicking on them to "check infant," and eventually they will get into the habit?) 😭😭😭And we still have the stupid musical chair with the high chair - one parent puts the kid in; the other parent immediately takes the kid out.
