I'm a big vintage fan, so I search thrift stores and yard sales for beautiful old vintage tins and containers to put my sewing tools in. Not only are they practical but they look great on my shelves.

I have a 1 bedroom apartment and I have a sewing corner in my bedroom... I made it look nice and I love it. Not everyone can have a whole room for sewing. I'm so blessed to have what I have and I'm so happy with the way it came out.

Great video - thank you! Two things I find handy: coffee mug tree (found at a discount store) to hang all my scissors; small lazy Susan (again, discount store find) - about 8” diameter, upon which I have small dollar tree containers with needles, thread caps, and other oft-used bits, right by the machine. I can spin and grab without having to reach around and knock stuff off. Hope these are useful tips☺️

Someone else mentioned a coffee mug tree too! I love that idea! The lazy Susan would be a good investment too. I started to keep a white dishwash bin (probably from the dollar store) to keep smaller boxes of chalk and pins and things like that but I always have to dig through it. A lazy susan would be a good alternative. Thanks for the idea!

Ah, The Classic Coffee Can! I have one with my scissors on my ironing board. I also use a lot of little plastic containers that stuff from the grocery stores come in. Yogurt cups for my clips (which I use all the time). Thanks for the ideas.

Yogurt cups are great! We don’t eat the smaller containers anymore but I save the bigger ones for dyeing projects! Thanks for stopping by!

Don't have a peg board or space to put one (I'm in front of a window) so I use a coffee mug stand for my scissors next to my machine. Also I hung a small command hook on the side of my machine for my very small scissors, holds two.

Is a coffee mug stand the tree like thing that you hang the mugs off of? That’s a great idea! We use the command hooks on the side of the machine at the studio today and it works so well! I only hear “Miss Laura I can’t find my snips” 3 or 4 times a class now 😂

Good ideas. For my needles I took a magnetic cosmetic tray with separate little compartments labeled them this is where I keep all my machine needles; universal,heavy weight woven, heavy weight knits, etc. to keep track of what I have in the machine I have a pin with a flag on it that represents what’s in the machine. Whatever I take out of the machine goes back where the flag is. I also use a magnetic strip on the wall for all my little tools like screwdrivers oil can, etc.

Hi... Years ago I added pegboard to the inside of my storage cupboards... Including the ones I have under my sewing desks, that roll out as needed, 2 have pressing stations on top, 1 has a cutting mat on top

So you have storage cupboards with a pressing table on top that fits under your desk? Am I picturing that correctly? That’s a great idea!

Love your sewing space. I live in an apartment which has 2 bedrms, living room, bath, kitchen. I have my sewing space set up in the living room in a corner. My husband has the second bedroom for all his crafts. Was wondering do you have a piece of felt or foam on the bottom of your coffee can to protect your scissors? Keep up with the great videos and great ideas.

Thank you! I don’t do that but it’s a really interesting point... my Ginghers have the blade sleeve they came with but my fiskars don’t. I’ll definitely have to do that! Thank you for the idea!

I like all of your plastic organizers with compartments for small items, but where & how do you store the organizers? Do they sit on a shelf? In a drawer?

I love thread boards but I don’t want my thread to get dusty so I use a covered storage box.

That’s an interesting point… At our studio thread is used so frequently there isn’t much chance for it to get dusty. I’ll have to inspect my home sewing room threads!

Hello Im trying to design a organized sewing area. I have a 4 ft desk with 2 deep side drawers and two small on top edge of desk. And a 4 ft dining table up on bed risers to make it taller for cutting. I just purchased a 2×4 pegboard. As i stare all supplies i have no idea how to put it together any ideas
@hartfordstitch6571
@hartfordstitch6571 3 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have all the essential elements! Using bed risers to lift up the cutting table is a great idea. Without knowing the space you’re using it’s hard to give exact ideas on how to assemble it. But I like to think of it like a kitchen layout. You know how the oven, sink and fridge are all supposed to be in a triangle shape for efficient access? I like to do something similar so that my cutting table, iron and sewing table are all close together. Whether it’s in an L shape or a triangle layout.

For holding my supplies I went to the dollar store and picked up plastic storage things. For cuteness I picked up plastic Easter baskets in the colors of my room. I also got screw top clear plastic jars, and some clear plastic shoe boxes. I also have a magnetic knife holder to grab my thread nippers, pattern weights, etc. as well as some pretty jars for clips, pencils, markers, etc.
