Brilliant visual demo and teaching strategy. Only omission (for UK atleast) is adding unique map ref letters at start of grid ref. Thanks for brill teaching.

An additional point of explanation: Finding a six figure good reference like this gives you a position estimate of approximately 100 meter accuracy. That's because you are dividing a 1 km square into a 10 x 10 grid.

You really could have explained this in under 3 minutes. I don't mean this rudely (although it definitely sounds as though I do) it's just that this was far, far too long for what simplicity this really is.

Was it not 4217 instead of the other way around? I don't know...I was confused - aren't you supposed to say the number at the horizontal line *before* the vertical grid line???? :/ If I'm mistaken, can someone explain why????
@lobsey7 жыл бұрын
This is a common issue. You need to go along the horizontal line first, but as you do, one by one, you are passing the vertical lines. You need to move along the 'corridor' to find the right vertical line, and then up the 'stairs' to find the right horizontal line. I suggest you watch this video on Area References: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJDThH-Ojd2mq9U

Steve Lobsey Thank you so much! I understand now what was happening in thus video - I'm just used to the eastings being at the bottom, instead of at the top. Great video =)
