6 foreign nationals, including 2 Americans, found dead in luxury hotel in Thailand

Thai police are investigating the deaths of six foreign nationals whose bodies were found in a room at an upmarket hotel in Bangkok on Tuesday, including looking for a seventh person in connection with the incident.
All six - who were of Vietnamese descent, with two carrying U.S. passports - checked into Bangkok's Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel at two separate times after arriving on Saturday and Sunday, police official Thiti Saengsawang told reporters. He added that the group of three men and three women checked into different rooms but their bodies were found in one room, which did not show any signs of struggle.
“Drinks that have been consumed (were found) on the table. There were cups similar to tea or coffee cups - five of them - placed on another table. Every glass was emptied and some residue was found in the glasses,” Saengsawang said.
In Washington, D.C., U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that the White House was “aware” of the reported deaths of the two U.S. citizens in Bangkok and offered condolences, but deferred to local authorities for any additional information regarding the ongoing investigation.

I have been living in Thailand for about 3 years. It’s an extremely safe country, even for a single lady like me:) Most of Thailand is rural and peaceful. Of course there are a few hot spots, and some tourists come to party hard, but if you love nature and tranquility, Thailand is ideal.

As a Thai, I don’t understand why our PM felt the need to involve himself in the police investigation. He didn’t have to be present at the crime scene, which should be restricted behind perimeter tape. If he was concerned about the impact on tourism, he could have simply ordered more manpower and effort for the case. It seems like an unnecessary effort to use the media for self-promotion.

@@aeroAdvocate Maybe you watch too many TV shows and lose the sense of the reality. The DSI can't automatically get the case unless it has "evidences" that qualify with their criteria and the police department has to make the petition to the DSI to accept the case, which takes time. Every case starts with the local police department, it's the law, and then they can petition the case to the central police bureau (CSD), and finally the DSI. Even the FBI can't take the case automatically, they need to be asked by the local police.

I'm staying at the Grand Hyatt this week. Everything was extremely low-key yesterday; nobody said a word, but when I came back to the hotel at ~ 8:30pm, there was a lot of police and media in the hotel. Nobody asked for any identification or anything. Very sad; I feel sorry for the staff who discovered the bodies. Also, the way this was all made public with names and images posted online immediately even before the next-of-kin was able to be informed is absolutely disgusting.

It sounds like one of the parties was running some sort of scam. Supposedly one party invested $200K to build a hospital in Japan. Japan is not a cheap place to build and unlike Vietnam they enforce building codes for the most part.
