I actually love this because when I was young I genuinely derived so much comfort from these catalogues (our first visionboards). They were especially good in the 80's ❤
@ColeChickeringАй бұрын
I agree, the 80s ones hit different 💟

LIVED for these catalogs to arrive as a kid.

My mom had a geese themed kitchen in the late 80’s/early 90’s when I was little! The pink, blue and white geese theme was all the rage!

So random trivia nobody asked for: during communism and immediately after its fall (the 90s), in Eastern Europe (more precisely Romania) the German catalogues Neckermann and Quelle were precious commodities. The country was pretty closed, the contact with foreigners heavily scrutinized so who knows how some few lucky people got them catalogues. Industrious women took them to their seamstress to replicate the garments, and they were considered the epitome of luxury. To the point where an expression was born: "Dressed like in the Neckermann [catalogue]". I suppose they gave people a glimpse of what wealth or well being or luxury looked like in a world that wasn't possible for them; maybe even hope for a better future. I have never seen these particular catalogues from the video but I recall the German ones and this video gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling on the inside. So thank you for this random corner of internet.

I bet the Sears photo studio sets are like two walls they push together to make a corner. Same light and camera setup; walls are movable.

Makes sense… but I’d prefer to think of it as like a giant dollhouse, with one wall missing from each room. 🪆🪑

I was 16 in 1988. I HATED all the drapey, filigree, old fashioned look to things. It felt … idk I found it uninspiring. I really admired Scandinavian simplicity and Japanese simplicity with dual/multi purpose furniture. And the thought of dusting all the knickknacks 🙄😱
