Nice ideas for developing a sketchbook habit. Thanks, Jeannine and I really liked the way you handled the small silicone tool.

Love your sketchbook playfulness! I tend to try too hard to make a painting or a pleasing (to me) piece of artwork. It saps some of my spontaneity, creative freedom, and fun.

So many great ideas! I love seeing people explore. I want to loosen up with my sketchbooks too. I also recently started an inspiration sketchbook/scrapbook. I had an old stack of cards (old birthday cards, etc.) and images I had printed or torn out of magazines. It's nice to have them all in one place. Thank you for the video!

You can get a bunch of different ‘color shapers’ of various shapes and sizes for pretty cheap if you search for silicone pottery tools you can find lots of options usually for about 5-10 per 5-10$ pack. They won’t have the fancy imprint on the handle or anything but they’re otherwise exactly the same and will give you a much wider range of options to play with. Also, lovely work and thanks for sharing!

I was just going to suggest that and saw it was done. :) Although the handle is going to be different. The one she uses is an artist paint brush handle and the shapers for silicone pottery/clay have shorter and thinner handles.

I get given sketch books for Christmas and birthdays because I paint they must be useful but I so rarely sketch I have 7 or more not started 😅 . The house is like an art gallery with (currently) 22 paintings and room for a few more in the living room and many more around the house I don't find much time to sketch, but I'm loving your work with so many great ideas.

I can so relate! I have bought so many sketchbooks that are still waiting to be filled. And I just don't enjoy traditional sketching. out flat is so crowded with paintings that we have to move house now 😄 Hope you find something you enjoy creating in your sketchbooks. And if not, they still look pretty on a shelf 😉

I love a new sketchbook, but you are right, they are always a little intimidating. Lots of artists also start the first page with colour swatches, which I also find quite effective

@@jclosestudio Thank you Jeannine. Right now I’m struggling with switching out my marks and patterns. I tend to always drift back to the same brush strokes or marks. It’s hard to break. I’m just starting CVP so hoping this helps but I love your teaching method and painting style so was curious on courses with you. I think if you offered some individual paid courses you would do well. Thanks again. 🙏💕

@@AnnetteSurtees Thanks for the feedback! I can so relate to getting stuck and creating the same kind of marks over and over. One thing I find that helps is to switch out my tools. You could also get a large sheet of paper and practice some really big marks, and then very small ones to contrast that.
@AnnetteSurtees
@AnnetteSurtees 6 ай бұрын

What kind of paint did you premix in the jars?
@jclosestudio
@jclosestudio Жыл бұрын
It's acrylic paint I had mixed ages ago so unfortunately I don't remember what colours I mixed them from. The beige is quite similar to a buff titanium. The yellow is raw sienna. The acrylic paints are mainly Daler Rowney System 3 acrylics. Hope this helps!

Thank you Jeannine for this inspiring video. I’m not good with sketchbooks. I’ve some with few pages used. I prefer loose papers which I can classify and stock easily, besides easy drying. This was one of reasons that , I never considered myself a real artist 😅. However, I love your sketchbook of colors mixing. It is an excellent way to keep track of own experiments. I’ll try to have one . Thank you again

You are most welcome! I'm so glad to hear it has inspired you to create your own colour mixing sketchbook. Funny how we always have these limiting beliefs that we are not a proper artist. Sketchbooks are definitely very useful, but they don't have to be part of your practice to call yourself an artist. Everyone's practice is different!
